
The Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, has commenced disciplinary action following allegations of extortion and human rights violations leveled against one of its personnel, Inspector Kalu.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, FCID Annex, ASP Mayegun Aminat, said the allegation was brought to the attention of the Department through a social media petition.
According to the statement, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, FCID Annex, AIG Margaret Ochalla, immediately directed the Commissioner of Police X-Squad to investigate the matter, leading to the arrest of both the officer and a Point of Sale, POS, operator linked to the allegation.
During interrogation, the officer admitted that a report had earlier been lodged against the petitioner by concerned residents for allegedly terrorising the community,” the statement read.
It added that the petitioner later confessed to involvement in identity theft and provided evidence to support the claim.
He was subsequently granted bail with instructions to return for further investigation.
The statement further explained that the POS agent confessed to giving the complainant the sum of ₦4 million in cash at his request.
She added that the petitioner later returned and deposited the same money with her without any explanation.
ASP Aminat confirmed that the funds have since been recovered in full and returned to the petitioner, while Inspector Kalu is currently facing an Orderly Room Trial to determine appropriate disciplinary measures.
Reassuring the public of the Force’s commitment to transparency and professionalism, AIG Ochalla reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s zero tolerance for corruption and unprofessional conduct.
She urged the public to continue to report cases of misconduct through the appropriate complaint channels, stressing that accountability remains a cornerstone of police service delivery.
