The Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) has held her first ever Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) at NECA House, Ikeja, Lagos, to synchronise the tenures of Council Members and the Principal Officers of the Institute to end on the same date for efficient governance.

With this development, the Council elections earlier scheduled for this September was postponed for one year, that is, to 2026, and the tenure of the current Council Members elected at the last Council election, was deferred to end with the elections in 2026.

The President and Chairman of Council, retired Commodore Abimbola Ayuba who presided the meeting explained that the lacuna in tenure of Principal Officers and other Council members was created by the untimely death of the 23rd President and Chairman of Council, retired Major General Abdullahi Muraina in September 2022, exactly one year into his tenure.

In line with the provisions of the NIM Act, the Notice of the Extraordinary General Meeting was earlier published in the Guardian and Daily Trust newspapers of Thursday, June 26, 2025, thereby giving the statutory three weeks (21 days) notice to members and the general public.
The motion for the adoption of the motion to synchronise the tenures of the Principal Officers and Council members was moved by Dr. Comfort Akinola, FNIM, at the meeting attended by financial/active members of the Institute.
