The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has ordered a large-scale deployment of personnel and operational equipment for a nationwide seven-day special patrol to enhance road safety during the Sallah festivities.
Its Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, says the special operation is aimed at ensuring a safer road environment before, during, and after the festive period.
Mohammed said this during a motor park rally at the Nyanya Central Motor Park in Abuja, where he disclosed that thirty-six thousand regular and special marshals have been mobilised for the exercise.
He added that seven hundred and fifty patrol vehicles, one hundred and twenty ambulances, twenty-five tow trucks, and over two hundred motorbikes will be deployed across the country.
The Corps Marshal explained that the operatives will be responsible for providing prompt rescue services and timely clearance of obstructions on all major roads and critical corridors.
He emphasised that the operation is designed to minimize road traffic crashes through effective patrols and sustained public enlightenment campaigns.
Mohammed further revealed that all commanding officers along fifty-two identified high-risk corridors have been directed to increase visibility and enforcement activities throughout the operation.
The corridors include major routes such as Akwanga–Lafia–Makurdi, Jos–Bauchi–Gombe, Sokoto–Tambuwal–Jega–Birnin Kebbi, Katsina–Kano–Wudil–Dutse–Azare–Potiskum, Kaduna–Saminaka–Jos, Abuja–Kaduna–Kano, Okene–Ogori–Isua–Owo, Makurdi–Otukpo–Obollo Afor–9th Mile, Asaba–Abraka–Ughelli–Warri, Ibadan–Ogere–Sagamu, and Sagamu–Mowe–Lagos, among others.
As part of enforcement efforts, he said the Corps will operate mobile courts across the country to ensure the prompt prosecution of traffic offenders.
According to him, key violations under focus include license violations, poor lane discipline, use of expired or worn-out tyres, failure to carry spare tyres, and the use of mobile phones while driving.
In his words, the FRSC has also deployed radar guns and breathalysers to detect and deter speeding and drunk driving.
Mohammed appealed to motorists to obey all traffic rules and cooperate with FRSC personnel and other law enforcement agencies.
The Corps Marshal urged passengers and commuters to speak out against reckless driving, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility.
