In a progressive move to enhance staff well-being and operational effectiveness, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has hosted a one-day Advanced Training Workshop focused on “Mental Well-Being and Trauma Care” for its senior officers at the agency’s headquarters in Oshodi.

The training, organised under the leadership of LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki, brought together high-ranking personnel including Directors, Comptrollers, Commanders, and Unit Heads.

It featured a keynote presentation by Professor Akindotun Merino, a globally recognised mental health expert, President of JARS Educational Group (USA), and Founder of the Africa Trauma Care Alliance.

Professor Merino’s session delivered deep insights into the psychological demands of high-stress roles, addressing critical topics such as trauma response, emotional intelligence, and resilience—skills increasingly vital for frontline officers managing Lagos’ dynamic traffic environment.
In his opening remarks, Bakare-Oki emphasised the importance of mental wellness in effective service delivery.
He said the mental and emotional well-being of our officers is central to ensuring professionalism, empathy, and prompt service to road users.
According to him, the training reflects the Lagos State Government’s continued investment in personnel development through structured training programs and the provision of modern tools and safety gear.
He added that as traffic managers in one of Africa’s busiest cities, LASTMA officers often face intense pressure and must be equipped not only physically but also psychologically to handle their responsibilities effectively.
The workshop highlights LASTMA’s broader commitment to building a resilient, emotionally intelligent workforce capable of maintaining order and safety on Lagos roads, while also prioritising the health and stability of its personnel.
