The Lagos State Police Command, has detained four murder suspects in separate incidents across Sangotedo, Ajegunle, and Ijegun areas of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests during a media briefing at the Command headquarters in Ikeja.
Hundeyin said police received a report on May 6 at 8:00 p.m. about a man allegedly punched to death during an argument in Sangotedo.
Detectives were informed that during a dispute over right of passage at a lounge, a 46-year-old man punched the victim in the chest.
The victim lost consciousness and was rushed to hospital, where a doctor confirmed him dead shortly after arrival.
Police detectives visited the scene and arrested the suspect at the location.
Hundeyin said police also received another murder report from Suru Alaba Community, Ajegunle, which occurred on April 28 at 7:00 a.m.
A distress call reported that an angry mob was beating two suspected armed robbers who were about to be lynched.
Officers quickly responded, rescuing the two 25-year-old suspects and taking them into custody for investigation.
A locally-made pistol, an expended cartridge, and a suspected stolen tricycle were recovered from the scene.
Preliminary findings showed the suspects and others at large shot a 35-year-old man while trying to steal his motorcycle.
The victim died on the spot. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining fleeing gang members.
Hundeyin also confirmed another murder case on May 1 at 11:00 p.m. in Ijegun.
A complainant reported that his younger brother was stabbed in the stomach by his girlfriend during an argument.
The victim was taken to Alimosho General Hospital, where he was declared dead by the attending doctor.
Homicide detectives visited the scene and arrested the female suspect.
The hospital was also visited. The victim’s body was photographed, and the murder weapon was recovered.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiries.
Hundeyin confirmed that all suspects will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
Also, Hundeyin, confirmed that operatives of the police command have detained two men who allegedly defiled their daughters in the Surulere and Amukoko areas of the state.
He confirmed the detention while briefing newsmen, saying a 39-year-old man defiled his two daughters aged 12 years and 14 years at Surulere.
Hundeyin said the man’s wife reported the case to the police, saying a case of defilement was reported on April 30 in which the complainant reported on behalf of her two daughters against her husband.
“She alleged that her husband defiled their two daughters,” he said.
The spokesperson said the report led to the apprehension of the woman’s husband.
The image maker said a medical report on the matter had been obtained from a sexual assault referral centre.
Hundeyin also told journalists that the police also apprehended a 48-year-old man who allegedly defiled his 16-year-old daughter in the Amukoko area of the state.
“On April 29, at 9.30 p.m., detectives of the command received a report from a complainant who reported that her husband had carnal knowledge of his physically-challenged daughter on several occasions.
He said the suspect was caught having a carnal knowledge of the minor on the same day, at 8.30 p.m.
Hundeyin said based on the report, a team of detectives visited the scene of the alleged crime where the suspect was apprehended.
He said the survivor had been taken to the General Hospital, Ajeromi, for examination and treatment.
According to him, investigation is onging in the cases.
Meanwhile, the Police operatives in Lagos State have arrested two suspects for allegedly kidnapping a 14-year-old boy and demanding a ransom of ₦20 million.
The Police Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development to journalists in Lagos, saying the boy was abducted in the Olodi-Apapa area, and the kidnappers demanded ₦20 million for his release.
He said on May 1 at 4:50 p.m., a report was received from the victim’s father about the suspected kidnapping.
“Officers were swiftly deployed to the ransom collection point at the Total Filling Station, Wema Bridge, Apapa.
“One suspect, aged 25, was apprehended at the scene. Officers then traced the gang’s hideout to a hotel in Ajegunle.
“The victim was found unharmed, debriefed, and reunited with his family. A 41-year-old hotel manager was also arrested,” Hundeyin said.
The police spokesperson added that investigations into the matter are currently ongoing.
