The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Olayemi Cardoso, is expected to Chair the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria, ICSAN, fundraising activity on 14th April, 2025 in Abuja.
ICSAN says the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and the Finance, Wale Edun, are the special guest of honour.
Its President and Council Chairman, Funmi Ekundayo, said the event will be graced by a number of heads of parastatals and captains of industry.
Ekundayo who is the First Female President of ICSAN said the fundraising event for the project is coming after search of funds for the construction of the secretariat, saying the truth is that the institute’s financial strength is minimal.
According to her, the Institute has a giant profile as a leading voice on Corporate Governance in Nigeria and has made noticeable impact through diverse contributions as evinced in recurrent guidance to both the private and public sectors of the economy.
She said the building will further help ICSAN to continue to advance its campaign of corporate governance, saying the building will have three suspended floors and each of the floors is about a 1000 square meters.
In her words, it is expected, based on the architectural design, the first and second floors will be rented to corporate organisations while the third and fourth floors will be used by ICSAN.
Ekundayo said the contractors moved to site early February to start the construction, saying the whole stretch of the building is 55 meters.
According to her, the duration of the completion of the building is 36 months from February 2025 and the time could be shortened based on flow of funds.
In her words, in as much as external engagements to garner financial support for this multi-billion naira project are gaining ongoing traction, there is a moral obligation on esteemed members of the great Institute to equally support the National Secretariat Building project financially as communicated to all.
Ekundayo said their financial strength may be minimal, but their determination is immense, calling on all members and stakeholders to support the dream project in any way they can.
She added that ICSAN’s new secretariat will not only provide a permanent home for the Institute but also enhance its ability to deliver top-notch training and services to aspiring members.
In her words, the Institute has a giant profile as a leading voice on Corporate Governance in Nigeria and has made noticeable impact through diverse contributions as evinced in recurrent guidance to both the private and public sectors of the economy, the truth is that our financial strength is minimal.
Our main source of revenue being members’ subscriptions and incomes from trainings/ paid programmes. The bulk of these revenues are routinely channeled into operational costs and funding of myriads of activities necessitated by mission actualisation exigencies.
Thus we have not been able to accumulate the kind of fund that can conveniently cater for the project, hence the delay till now.
Now, we have decided to take the bull by the horn and start off with whatever resources we can muster, hoping to succeed by all legitimate means and by the help of God.
As today’s marks the first day of construction of this dream project, we hereby once again call on all our members, all those who have made diverse promises and undertakings and indeed all stakeholders harbouring our goodwill not to forget to come to our aid.
Ekundayo highlighted that her administration is committed to the course of the construction of the ICSAN national secretariat because it has been one project past leaders committed too.
Ekundayo reinstated the Institutes commitment to continue working with corporate organisations and governments alike to propagate good governance in both the private and public sector.
She harped on the importance of corporate governance practices such as transparency and information dissemination when necessary to avoid issues.
According to her, ICSAN wants Nigeria to strengthen her corporate governance regime to reap the benefits of economic growth and sustainable development.
She believed in the viability of emergence of a Nigeria that is strong, self-reliant and prosperous, saying one of the cogent ways of moving in this direction is by entrenching good governance in the public and private sectors.
Over the years, ICSAN have consistently promoted the ideals of Corporate Governance through periodic issuance of policy papers and Guidance materials on Corporate and Public Administration.
