Determined to promote a friendly policing atmosphere in Lagos State, the Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh has promised a robust collaboration with members of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria, CRAN.

CP Jimoh enjoins the media to criticise the police where necessary, as constructive criticisms would always assist the police in doing the right thing particularly in this era efforts were being made to always promote the rights of people.

He promised to run a transparent policing system where anyone with complain or contributions to make would feel free to walk into any police station or division without fear of intimidation.

CP Jimoh said this during an interactive session with with members of Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria CRAN at Mike Okiro Press Centre in Ikeja GRA.

Jimoh while thanking the crime reporters for the cordial relationship that had existed between the media and officers and men of the Police Command, he assured that his presence as commissioner of police in charge of Lagos would bring happier days as he would ensure a more robust collaboration in their reportage of crime and security related activities.

He described the Media, especially Crime Reporters as valuable Partners of the police in security and law enforcement issues.

According to him, crime and defence journalists are not like other people in the media profession; they cover war, riots, follow police to some operations, even without bullet proof.

In his words, such people are not ordinary in security architecture, as they are strong partners, saying they are exposed to crimes and report to the public breakthrough made by security forces.

He sought for more collaboration with the media, but not saying they should not write bad stories about the command, but please, hear his own side first before going to the press.

I will not fight for writing the truth as long as you get our own side of the story. The fellow that writes bad story against the command today, will also writes good stories about us tomorrow.

We are partner in progress. My office and the office of PPRO are open for you always to reach us concerning any matter,” he said.

The Commissioner assured that the Lagos State Police command would double its effort in ensuring that peace and security reign in Lagos as no economic development would take place in an atmosphere of insecurity.

He emphasised that with increased security, economic activities of Lagos and other parts of the country would improve, thereby enabling a nation-wide development.

Earlier, CRAN President, Olalekan Olabulo, appreciated CP Jimoh for the visit, stressing that Jimoh was not a stranger to CRAN, as he has demonstrated strong partnership with the association while he was the Force spokesperson.

Olabulo, who spoke through the Vice President, Evelyn Usman, assured CP Jimoh of the association’s support.

He assured Jimoh of maximum support, describing the CP as a friendly officer who had interfaced with many of the reporters in different capacities over the years.

He called on CP Jimoh to always respond to issues raised by journalists in good time so as not to leave them with information available from the public.

The president advised CP Jimoh to be weary of some people parading as CRAN members, stressing that when in doubt, CRAN leaders should be contacted.
