Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has stated that the Police, Military, and other security agencies did not use excessive force during the #EndBadGovernance protests.
Speaking at a meeting with security agency heads in Abuja, Egbetokun addressed allegations of excessive force, asserting that no live ammunition was used by the police or military.
“The police and the military, along with all other security agencies involved in managing these protests, did not employ excessive force,” Egbetokun said. “Instead, our officers were subjected to attacks during the protests. We have no records of shooting incidents by the police.” IGP stated.
The IGP emphasised that the security forces did not use live ammunition, water cannons, or rubber bullets. “We used only teargas to manage the situation,” he explained.
Egbetokun dismissed claims of excessive force as fake news and wrong allegations, revealed that several officers sustained injuries and are in critical condition.

Bauchi State Police Command has debunked a purported video circulating online claiming that security operatives gunned down a protester in Azare, the headquarters of Katagum local government area.
In a statement, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO SP Ahmed Wakil, says the claim is untrue and misleading.
The statement explains that no such inhumane act was recorded by the command at the mentioned location or any other part of the state.
It says the command has constituted a team of experts to exhume the death body, if any, as well as use technical and scientific tools that are vital to the investigation of allegations of this nature.
The statement quoted the state Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, as having called on media practitioners not to relent in their firm commitments and dedication to ensuring global best practices.
While calling on members of the public to disregard this misinformation and always verify information through official channels, the statement says that CP Auwal Musa is committed to maintaining high standards of professionalism, accountability, and justice.
