The Lagos State Government has closed down several businesses in the Ikorodu area of the state, as a way to tackle noise, air pollution, and other environmental infractions in the state.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement on X.com, saing the move was after a recently conducted comprehensive enforcement operation in key areas of the state, including Agric, Ibeshe, and Ikorodu.

Wahab added that despite prior warnings, several establishments, including hotels, bar, gas filling station, poultry farms, and lounge, continued to flout Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency’s directives.

According to him, as a result, the establishments have been temporarily shut down to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

He emphasised the importance of businesses complying with environmental standards, reiterating commitment to fostering a sustainable and harmonious environment for Lagos residents.

The Commissioner said with repeated warnings issued to businesses across the state, the Agency remains resolute in its commitment to rigorously enforce the State environmental laws, ensuring compliance and achieving a clean and sustainable environment befitting Lagos State’s status as the nation’s Center of Excellence.
