The Management, Staff, Personnel of the Muritala Muhammed International Airport Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have paid a glowing tribute to one them, the Head of Legal Unit of the Command, CN Barrister Nwagu Augustine who retired after a meritorious service.

The retirement ceremony was held at the Conference Hall of NDLEA JBTF office at Hajj and Cargo, Ikeja, Lagos, attended by the Commander, Usman Wadar, the management team, the entire officers and men of the Command, well meaning Nigerians and his families.

NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer retired Brigadier General Buba Marwa who spoke through Commander CN Wadar, commended CN Nwagu for successfully rendering his meritorious services in the Agency until today.


The entire Management Team, officers and men of the Command also paid glowing tribute and prayed for more fruitful years even as he marks his birthday accordingly.


Barrister Augustine Nwagu, CN was born to the late Chief Paul Nwagu and the late Stella Nwagu of Akwu-Akokwa in Ideato-North Local Government Area of Imo State.
He started his early education at Onitsha, Anambra State from where in 1986 he was admitted into the Faculty of Law of the prestigious University of Nigeria, where he graduated in 1990 with an LL. B(Hons).
He then proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos where he obtained a B.L (Hons) in 1991 and was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in the same year.
In 2004, he obtained an LL.M from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
In 1991/92 he served his motherland in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Benin City, Edo State in the Law Firm of Dan Ose Okoh, SAN & CO. After his NYSC he came down to Lagos to start his Private Legal Service in the Law Firm of Johnson Odionu & Co at the Anthony Village, Lagos.
During this time, he did a lot of Receiverships and Managing of distressed companies.
He joined the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in January 1997 as a Senior Legal officer and was posted to Kaduna Zonal Command, Zaria.
He contemplated not accepting the employment for two reasons; first the poor salary structure of the Agency and second, he detested being posted out of Lagos where he had started a Legal Practice, but as fate will have it he was persuaded by an Older Uncle to accept the offer and this became a turning point in his Life.
During the course of his twenty-seven years career in the NDLEA, he served in various capacities as a Prosecutor and Command Positions.
He served in Kaduna Zonal Command, Zaria; Warri Zonal Command, Warri; National Headquarters, Ikoyi – Lagos; Seme Command, Seme Border and Ogun State Command, Abeokuta as a Prosecutor; while he had served in the Rivers State Command, Port Harcourt; Kebbi State Command, Birin Kebbi; Zamfara State Command, Gusau and Ogun State Command as an Assistant State Commander (Administration and Logistics) and at Lagos State Command, Lagos as an Assistant State Commander (Operations and Intelligence).
In 2014 when the then Chairman/Chief Executive Officer Alhaji Ahmadu Giade carried out a reorganisation of the Directorate of Prosecution and Legal Services of the Agency he was recalled to the Directorate and made the Principal Staff Officer in charge of Prosecution at the National Headquarters, 4 Shaw Road Ikoyi – Lagos, a position in which he creditably distinguished himself that then CCEO sent him and then Director of Prosecution and Legal Services to a training at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Roswell, United States of America.
On his return to Nigeria in 2016, when the National Crime Agency (NCA) of the United Kingdom and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) collaborated to establish the Joint Border Task Force (JBTF), he was appointed as Head of the Prosecution and Legal Services of the JBTF having passed the prerequisite Polygraph test; a position he held till date.
Augustine Nwagu is a family man, married to his heartthrob,. Anthonia Nwagu, and they are blessed with three children.
His hobbies include staying with good and positive people; playing squash and relaxation.
