The Rivers State Police Commissioner, Olatunji Rilwan Disu has won the CP of the year award at the maiden Nigeria Police Awards and Commendation ceremony held at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

Disu was awarded alongside 15 other outstanding police officers based on the recommendations of the Nigeria Police Force Awards Committee headed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Bala Ciroma.

The maiden edition of the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony was held in conjunction with a private entity and stakeholder in the Nigerian security community, Lenders Consult International, to appreciate exemplary police officers.

The police officers acknowledged were adjudged as deserving of the awards by a committee because of their exemplary performance and dedication to duty in law enforcement.

Speaking at the event, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun noted that the award has demonstrated the meritorious but guiding principles that should shape the daily actions and decisions of police officers.
Egbetokun said the recognition will be given to discipline officers who diligently carried out investigations and prosecutions.
According to him, their efforts have brought offenders to justice, delivered closure to victims and reinforced the rule of law, transforming justice from a mere concept into a tangible reality for all.
In his words, it will also be presented in 16 distinct categories, including crime posting side by client, community, policy, investigation, gallantry and integrity, communicating with the force.
He noted that the Force remains vigilant in sanctioning those who have acted unprofessionally or in violation of the code of conduct in the course of their duties.
The Police Chief said the Awards Night serves not only as a platform for celebration but also as a reminder of the importance of accountability and responsibility within law enforcement.
Those honoured with awards in their different categories include Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as Commissioner of Police of the Year, ACP Muhammad Z. Musa, as Area Commander of the Year, CSP Shaba Aliyu DPO Ekpan in Delta State as DPO of the Year.
Also awarded was Commissioner of Police, Kano State CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel as Community Policing Advocate of the Year; SP Kasumu Rilwan Oluporo, OC Ijanikin in Lagos as the Investigator of the Year, Insp. Everistus Onyia SCID Enugu as the Detective of the Year, CSP Odeyeyiwa Oladimeji OC Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Imo Command as the Crime Burster of the Year and SP Haruna Abdullahi, as Public Relations Officer of the Year.
Other officers recognised for exemplary performances at the Nigeria Police Awards
Others are GD III Alabi Kayode, Kwara Command as the Traffic Warden of the Year, Corporal Abbey Yetunde as Sports Person of the Year, ACP Dere Yusuf Olalekan as Medical Personnel of the Year, ASP Nnamdi Egbunike (NPF-NCCC) as Cybercrime Buster of the Year.
Still others are ASP Madaki Wisdom Emmanuel as Legal Officer of the Year.
The trio of SP Okoi Emmanuel Iferi, and SP Idris Ibrahim were awarded for Integrity by Counter Intelligence Unit (FID), Operation Haba Maza Desert Intervention Squad Yobe, Federal Safer Highway Patrol (Yabo-Argungu/Sanyinna Road) Sokoto, and 40PMF Patrol Team Taraba as Patrol Team of the Year.

Other nominees were also given certificates of recognition.
Other officers who made the nominees list were SP Ogunmolasuyi Busola Mariam (Lagos) and CSP Mustapha Mohammed Musa (Ekiti) for the Investigator of the Year Award; SP Larrycarr Augustus Nwapi (Plateau) and CSP Adeniyi Adekunle (Ogun) for the Community Policing Advocate of the Year; Insp. Aminu Suleiman Jikamshi (Kano) and Insp. Adekola Joseph (Osun) for the Detective of the Year Award; SP Garba Ibrahim (Katsina) and DSP Adeyemi Akeem (Zone 2 Lagos) for the Crime Buster of the Year Award; ASP Kabir Auwal (Kastina) and ASP Zubairu Usman (Adamawa) for the Cybercrime Buster of the Year Award.
Others are; GD I Salisu Haruna and GD I Abdullahi Ibrahim for the Traffic Warden of the Year; SP Edafe Bright and DSP Daniel Ndukwe Ekea for the PRO of the Year; Cpl. Collins Obi and PC Tombrapa Grikpa for Sports Person of the Year; CSP Ihegboro Minachiso and ACP Kazim Olakunle Olayemi for Medical Personnel of the Year; CSP Babayola Mohammed Musa (DPO Bwari) and SP Ojekunle Nurudeen Ishola (DPO Tarka) for DPO of the Year;
ACP Shehu Alao and ACP Obigwa Francis Obigwa for Area Commander of the Year; and Insp. Daniel Shagbaor Kwaghaalade and SP Yetunde Olabisi Cardoso for Legal Officer of the Year.
The event was graced by Vice President, Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Minister for Police Affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, Chairman, Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Taoreeh Lagbaja; among others.
