The National Police Service Council has confirmed the former Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun as the Substantive IGP and Head of the Nigeria Police Force.
Briefing State House Correspondents after the Council Meeting, the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam announced the confirmation of Kayode Egbetokun as the Substantive Inspector General of Police.
Geidam also said “members endorsed President Tinubu’s proposal on the confirmation of Egbetokun following his pedigree and experiences on the job.”
He said Egbetokun’s confirmation follows his satisfactory discharge of duties in the past three months since his appointment 20th June.
Geidam further said the IGP who has been serving in an acting capacity for the past 3-4 months since his appointment, presented impressive records that revealed his numerous police and security developmental programmes, thereby positioning him as highly qualified.
Attending the meeting are the thirty-six State Governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
State governors sighted and headed to attend the close door event are Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Dapo Abiodun- (Ogun), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Abdullahi Abba (Kano), Bassey Ottu (Cross River), Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal.
The last time the Nigeria Police Council met was on June 4th 2021, when President Muhammadu Buhari presided over the meeting of the council at the State House.
President Tinubu had 19th June appointed Egbetokun as IGP.
The new IGP replaced Usman Baba, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari on April 6, 2021.
Born on September 4, 1964 from the Egbado South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria, Egbetokun enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP (Course 16) on March 3, 1990.
He would clock 35 years in service by September 2024, according to police rules.
