Law Enforcement Agency Personnel have been warned to desist from illegal operations liable to tarnish the image of their agency.
The warning was given by Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, following reports of extortion of truck drivers and other motorists by thugs and some recalcitrant law enforcement officers in some critical spots of Lagos State.
Owohunwa said any personnel irrespective of the agency found complicit in the act of extortion racketeering would not be spared as they would be apprehended and dealt with in accordance with the law.
He said the Command has set up an enforcement team with the mandate of raiding spots that have been identified as notorious for such nefarious activities.
According to Omohunwa, the enforcement team has commenced raiding, saying the team, leading by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), comprises tactical teams and provost officers from the state headquarters began operations at Mile 2 area of the state a hotbed for the brazen extortionists.
In his words, total of fifteen thugs were arrested in the act of extortion three police officers, one Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and one Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel were arrested for being in cahoots with the touts.
He assured Lagosians, especially motorists that the newly set-up enforcement team would sustain the raids and definitely replicate them in other parts of the state where the same issues exist until total sanity is restored.
