Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has visited the scene of the light single airplane crash at Oba Akran Aveue, in Ikeja area of Lagos and appealed to those who had gathered on the road to leave to ease traffic flow in the axis.

Governor Sanwo-Olu returned from a trip to Cotonou, Benin Republic with President Bola Tinubu where he attended the 63rd independence of that country.

He acknowledged the two men who were the first responders at the accident scene.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) commenced investigation into the accident which occurred in Lagos.

In a statement, the NSIB said the accident which occurred around after 3pm WAT involved a Jabiru J430; a light single airplane with Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-CCQ operated by Air First Hospitality & Tours.

It said the aircraft was on a test flight within Lagos with two passengers onboard before it crashed around Oba Akran area of Lagos State with no fatality.

According to the NSIB, the aircraft caught fire on impact, but the spread was contained by the rainfall and the two occupants on board were taken to the hospital.

The NSIB called on the public to assist the bureau with pictures, video or recording evidence to aid the conduct of a comprehensive investigation.

Its Public Affairs, General Manager, Tunji Oketumbi, confirmed the accident in a telephone interview in Lagos

Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu said the helicopter crash-landed in front of the United Bank of Africa.

He said two persons including the pilot had been rescued alive, saying the agency has activated its disaster response plan to the above incident which occurred around 1600hrs.

“The helicopter registered 5NCCQ was finally confirmed to contain 2 passengers and it has been safely removed from the road which is now free for vehicular movement.

According to Osanyintolu, the agency activated its disaster response plan to the scene of the incident.

He said the helicopter was evacuated from the scene of the incident around 5:30pm.

“The helicopter registered 5NCCQ was finally confirmed to contain 2 passengers and it has been safely removed from the road which is now free for vehicular movement.

“All Emergency Responders are now departing the scene. Further investigation to be carried out by NCAA,” he said.

The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA said two persons inside the helicopter which crashed on Oba Akran Road, Ikeja, Lagos have been rescued.

Its Territorial Coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident, saying the occupants of the helicopter were two crew members.

He, however promised that responders said they would provide further information on the incident.
