The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has taken its sensitisation on flooding to Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos.

Its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, speaks at the program tagged Flood Free Lagos 2023: Building Flood Resilience is a Collective Responsibility, held at Eti-Osa.

Oke-Osanyintolu assured residents that government would continue to put measures in place to prevent flooding in the state.
He noted that Eti-Osa is vulnerable to climate change and ocean surge, urging residents to desist from dumping refuse indiscriminately in drainage channels, due to its closeness to the lagoon.
Oke-Osanyintolu hinted that a stakeholders engagement with government will hold next week to identify challenges in Eti-Osa and proffer permanent solutions.
Environmental Supervisor of Eti-Osa Council, Balogun Sharafa identified illegal dredging activities and reclamation of land as the major factors causing flash floods in the area.
He appealed to the government to come to their aid to prevent their properties from being submerged in flood anytime it rains.
The sensitisation program which had been held in Lagos West and Lagos Central, will also be held in Lagos East Senatorial District of the State.
As a follow-up to the outreach, stakeholders would also be hosted by LASEMA at it’s Command, Control Centre, in Alausa, Ikeja to ensure the message is cascaded down to the grassroots.
This is according to a statement by LASEMA Head, Public Affairs Unit, Nosa Okunbor.
