Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun has expressed commitment to work closely with experienced trainers, subject matter experts, and community stakeholders to develop comprehensive training program for the Force.

Egbetokun firmly believes that the training initiative will foster a stronger bond between law enforcement and the communities while empowering police officers to build trust, understand diverse perspectives, and proactively address issues that affect public safety and well-being”.

He said this when the National Coordinator, Response to Drugs and Related Organised Crime in Nigeria Sensitisation Training for Nigeria Police Force, Wilson Ighodalo, paid the new management of the Nigeria Police Force courtesy visit.

Ighodalo was recieved by Egbeyokun, and the newly promoted Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba, at Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He briefed Acting Inspector General of Police on the ongoing police training program for Police personnel’s training and capacity building organised by his organisation The Drug Salvation Foundation.
Ighodalo noted that lending support to the NGO by the Police boss will go a long way in motivating them to give their best to the society on the fight against drug abuse.
He presented to the Acting Inspector-General of Police; the First Phase Pilot Reports on Drug Prevention, Treatment and Care Sensitisation Training for Nigeria Police Force for mindset engineering of the Force on effective response to drugs and related organised crime prevention.
According to him, the immediate past IGP Usman Baba had supported drug control in Nigeria by approving training for Police personnel on “Response to Drugs and Related Organised Crime in Nigeria Sensitisation Training for the Nigeria Police Force” Drug Prevention, Treatment and Care Sensitisation Training for the Nigeria Police Force.
In his words, another interesting aspect of the training is the addition of combating cultism and using sports, especially sports to engage youths and steer them away from criminal activities.
He maintained that the Drug Salvation Foundation is building the capacity of Police on decriminalisation and respect for the human rights of drug users, the search for more effective responses by law enforcement authorities and the community generally must be stepped up.
According to him, “Police also need to adopt harm reduction approaches to reduce the negative consequences of drug use for those who continue to use illicit drugs due to addiction.
He said the IGP is determined to bridge the gap between the Police and the public through professionalism.”
“Nigerians also expect to see a Police Force that is very disciplined and focused on her traditional responsibility of fighting crime and protecting society.
But above all, supporting the Police with laurels can motivate the Force to give its best at all times as promised by the Acting Inspector General of Police.”
