Eze Anaba, Editor, Vanguard Media Limited, has been elected President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, NGE.

Anaba succeeded Mustspha Isa of the Silverbird Group.

Anaba polled 250 votes at the ongoing 2023 Biennial Convention of the Guild holding in Owerri, Imo State to defeat his only opponent, Bolaji Adebiyi formerly of Thisday Newspapers, who polled 81 votes.

Anaba was before his election Social and Publicity Secretary of NGE.

Earlier, President, Nigeria Guild of Editors, Mustapha Isa, advised members to adopt and innovate news survival strategies, while fully embracing media convergence.

Isa stated this at the opening ceremony of the Biennial Convention of the Nigerian Guild of Editors in Imo State, themed, “Promoting Professionalism for enhancement of Democracy and Good governance”.

Isa noted that Government had initiated various intervention funds to bail out other sectors of the economy but it is not bothered about the current state of the media.

He expressed worry that the media, meant to play the role of a watchdog and constitutionally empowered to hold Government accountable is being faced with the challenge of survival.

Also, President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Chris Isiguzo, says the role of Journalism is to sharpen Democracy and Journalists must ensure accurate News to foster transparency in the polity.

Isiguzo enjoined Journalists to commit themselves to highest standard of Professionalism, prioritise development, capacity building and the ethical standards of the profession.

According to him, Journalists should foster partnership with other stakeholders, especially Government agencies and international bodies.

He concluded that the future of Democracy and good governance rests on shoulders of the Journalists.
