The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, or World Drug Day, is marked twenty-sixth June every year to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse.
Each year, various organisations all over the world join to observe World Drug Day to help raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs pose to society.
To this end, a group of journalists covering and reporting activities of The Nigeria Police, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Civil Defence, Security, named Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria, CRAN, is this year holding a Panel Session for students on ills of drug abuse.
The session holding at Ikeja Senior Grammar School will have students from; Ikeja Junior Grammar School, Ikeja Senior Grammar School, Ikeja Junior College, Bolade Senior Grammar School, Bolade Junior Grammar School, Oshodi Senior Comprehensive School, Oshodi Junior Comprehensive School, Oshodi Senior High School, Oshodi Junior High School participating.
According to CRAN, the panel session will involve NDLEA, NAPTIP, POLICE and a Medical Doctor to talk to the students on the ills of drug abuse.
Its President, Olalekan Olabulo says the panelists would take care of the medical, legal, crime and security implications of drug abuse.
He reveals that the groups choice of nine Secondary Schools under the Ikeja, Mushin and Oshodi LGAs, Education District 1, is in continuation of bid to catch them young and educate them on the ills of the menace.
According to him, Madam Yewande Iwuoha will speak as an NGO who has been in the fore front of tackling drug abuse.
He says the Zonal Coordinator of NEMA Ibrahim Farinloye will conduct a first aid class for the students.
