Operatives of the Lagos State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC have arrested nine Ghananians on Lagos high sea.
The suspects were arrested with two hundred and one bags of substance suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.
The substance, neatly parked in several sizes and shapes, concealed in sacks, were said to have been Intercepted last Sunday by the Marine Unit of the Command, while being carried into Nigeria.
Command Commandant, Douglas Eweka who paraded the suspects and exhibit seized said it is worth over two hundred million naira in street value.
According to him, the arrest and seizure was a result of intelligence driven efforts and good synergy between the agency and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
In his words, it is of great concern that citizens from neighbouring country rather than appreciate Nigerian Government for their great support choose to help destroy the youth’s future, all the nine arrested courier of the contraband goods are all Ghanians.
He said the Corps will not relent in making them pay for their evil work as they will be made to face the music they are playing.

According to him, the items were smuggled through Ghana with the aid of some accomplices.

Narrating how the suspects were arrested, he said, “The suspects loaded the products in a shop with the hope of smuggling them into the country but they didn’t know that our Ghanaian counterpart had informed us and we followed up. From our investigation, the hemp is worth ₦200m in the market.
“The suspects were traced with two of the 17 boats that were recently donated to us. They were apprehended when they ran out of fuel and one of them strolled into the country to get fuel. It was then our officers descended on them,” he said.

“Though it was not in the jurisdiction of the agency to delve into drug matters, but the interwoven connectivity between drug addiction and government’s critical infrastructures necessitated the arrest.”
Similarly, the agency also paraded three young men who specialise in vandalization of armored cables in Ikeja.
The suspects; Abdul Rahman, Shina Taiwo and Sunday Amon who were residents of the area were said to have been terrorising the state capital for over two years.
