The Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court at Oshodi sentenced one Babatunde Okekunle, Male, 40, to 3 months and 2 weeks in jail for impersonation and being in possession of fake identity cards of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps, LAGESC and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, around the Ikeja-Along axis of the State.
Reacting to the sentence at the Command Headquarters at Bolade-Oshodi, the Corps Marshal, retired CP Gbemisola Akinpelu said, ‘‘this will serve as a deterrent to other nefarious elements who falsely represent government enforcement agencies to defraud and extort unsuspecting members of the public and we are always on guard to identify these elements’’.
The accused, Babatunde Okekunle was arraigned before Magistrate O. O Fagbohun on a two-count charge bordering on breach of public peace and impersonation of a LAGESC/KAI and LASTMA officer which contravened Section (1) (d) and Section 78 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The magistrate subsequently sentenced him to 2 weeks for breach of public peace and 3 months for impersonation.
She advised the public to always identify LAGESC officers with their full uniforms, appropriate name tags and identity cards to avoid falling prey to impostors that are bent on destroying the good image of the Agency.
This is contained in a statement, Chief Public Affairs Officer, Ajayi Lukman.
