Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA, says it plans to foster growth, development, and harness the potential of waterways transportation in the State.

Its General Manager, Damilola Emmanuel, stated this when Management of Ekofm/Radiolagos paid him a courtesy visit.

According to him, the investment opportunities in the sector would complement efforts of the present administration to combat traffic congestion on Lagos roads.

In his words, water transportation will also reduce the time it takes for citizens to commute especially during peak period, as fifteen out of the twenty Local Governments in the State are accessible by the waterways, currently manned by eighty percent of local boat operators.

He said twenty-twenty-one focused on safety of the waterways with minimal number of accidents, adding that more recently, movement of containers and goods had supported decongestion of Apapa port and its environment.

The agency boss stressed the need for more community engagements by LASWA, to enhance confidence in water transportation by disseminating safety messages, providing standard boats and life jackets, passing information on Jetties and their locations.
Responding, the General Manager, Radio Lagos/EkoFM, said the visit was to add value to the agency’s vision, while exploring other areas of benefits, as the Stations’ programmes were available for LASWA to take advantage of.
