Lagos State Government has sealed Dowen College in Lekki area over the death of one of its students, Sylvester Oromoni Junior.

This came two days after government announced the indefinite closure of the school.

The student’s death has continued to generate widespread criticism on social media platforms with many demanding justice for the deceased using the hashtag #JusticeForSylvester.

Oromoni, the twelve-year-old student of Dowen College, died a few days ago after he was allegedly attacked by some senior colleagues for allegedly refusing to join a cult group.

But the school had dismissed the claim, stating that he only sustained injuries while playing football with his colleagues.

Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho, confirmed the development.

The father of the deceased student, Sylvester Oromoni Snr, had fingered five boys whom he said were allegedly involved in the bullying of his son.

The father had also said the teachers, security men, and other officials of the school must explain the death of his son, whose 12th birthday was December 4 (Saturday).

With the national outrage the case has attracted since Oromoni’s death on November 30, 2021, federal and state governments have taken a number of actions.

The Lagos State Government ordered the indefinite closure of the school, pending the outcome of an investigation into the death of Sylvester.

Sylvester’s death is one of the disheartening deaths resulting from bullying and molestations in boarding secondary schools of late.
