Two hundred and thirty-four suspected robbers have been arrested in Lagos between January and March.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, aside the robbers arrested, three hundred and forty-three suspected cultists were also arrested within the same period.

It says ninety-one people were murdered, while two hundred and thirty-five arms and two hundred and sixty-five ammunition were recovered during the period in the State.

Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu disclosed this during a news briefing at the Command, Ikeja, where he paraded various crime suspects, and also rendered the command’s quarterly accounts of how it had been working tenaciously to combat crime.

He revealed that seventy-five robbery operations were foiled, while two hundred and thirty-two stolen vehicles were recovered withi the period.
The commissioner disclosed that ninety-one rape and defilement cases were reported to the command, while 127 gender-based cases were also reported.

More so, he disclosed that the command raided and arrested 1,592 suspected hoodlums in the first quarter of 2021, while 532 motorists were arrested for traffic offences within the same period.

He said while the command seized 2,953 okadas for violating traffic law, 103 fatal accidents were recorded within the period.
Odumosu disclosed that 82 vehicles were impounded for driving against the flow of traffic, while 509 vehicles were also impounded for violating COVID-19 curfew.
He added that 22 clubs and bars were raided during the period, just as 997 suspects were arrested for violating COVID-19 protocols, while 184 motorcycles and 10 tricycles were recovered.
Odumosu revealed that 3,258 cases were charged to court by the police in the last three months, with 1,107 people convicted and fined.
According to him, “within the period under review, January-Mid March, 2021, the Command has harnessed all resources within its reach and instituted proactive strategies to enforce laws and orders in all areas which include traffic, criminal and health related issues, especially COVID-19 protocols in the state.
“It is not out of point to also state that the efforts of the command have paid off in suppressing various criminal activities as well as traffic lawlessness by recalcitrant drivers, Motorcyclists and hoodlums who have been causing mayhem and engaging in other criminal acts like cultism, armed robbery, land grabbing, gangsterism, hooliganism, sexual abuses and domestic violence.
CP Odumosu said the state police would continue to do everything in its power to fight crime and bring it to a minimal state.
Several suspects were paraded, ranging from cultists, rapists/sexual offenders, traffic offenders, highway thieves and impostors of police officers.
At the command in Ikeja, no fewer than one hundred and twenty youths were paraded for alleged cult activities.
He also paraded eight criminals accused of impersonating the Nigerian police personnel who were arrested at Apapa ports.
The CP mentioned a case of a woman who allegedly stole a baby which she was preparing to sell for N900,000, and another case of eight suspects who allegedly killed one LASTMA officer and inflicted injury on another.
According to Odumosu, from January 2021 to March 2021, no fewer than 234 armed robbers were arrested and charged to court.
He added that majority of them were from Ikorodu areas of the state, while 235 firearms were recovered from the raids.
He said said health-related offenders were also arrested especially those who violated the COVID-19 rules by attending night clubs beyond the stipulated time.
“There were 127 reported cases of domestic violence, while 82 vehicles had been impounded for driving against traffic.
“The police impounded 532 commercial motorcycles, popularly called ‘Okada’ , while their riders were charged with breaking traffic rules, “he said.
The CP also paraded eight suspects who were arrested in connection with the murder of a LASTMA officer and also for allegedly assaulting one other staff member.
He said that 22 clubs had been raided and shut down for breaking COVID-19 rules while 997 clubbers were arrested and made to face the law.
The commissioner charged the members of the public to be law abiding and also to cooperate with law enforcers, in order to rid the state of social vices.

INTRODUCTION
Gentlemen of the press, I welcome you all to this press briefing where I intend to
update you and the general public on the general security situation in Lagos State, the
achievements of the command and its efforts on maintenance of law and order and
provision of adequate security for all and sundry in the state.
Within the period under review, January-Mid March, 2021, the Command has
harnessed all resources within its reach and instituted proactive strategies to enforce
laws and orders in all areas which include traffic, criminal and health related issues,
especially COVID-19 protocols in the state. It is not out of point to also state that
the efforts of the command have paid off in suppressing various criminal activities as
well as traffic lawlessness by recalcitrant drivers, Motorcyclists and hoodlums who
have been causing mayhems and engaging in other criminal acts like cultism, armed
robbery, land grabbing, gangsterism, hooliganism, sexual abuses and domestic violence.
Today, at this press briefing, the command intends to roll out its
achievements/breakthrough and parade some of the suspects arrested in connection
with some of the cases which are being handled by the command and can serve as
lessons to general public and deterrent to those who might be planning to venture into
such deviant and criminal acts in the state. Gentlemen of the press, permit me to run
through the statistics of the command’s achievements between January, 2021 and
February, 2021 and some of the cases recorded as follows:

FACTS OF THE CASE: On the 14/2/2021 at about 0130hrs, a group of armed
robbers besieged the house of a victim at Olowojolu Street, Ijaye Lagos and placed
him and the family on gun point. He was asked to submit all the valuables in the
house; otherwise, they will rape his wife and as well as kill him. He was later
dispossessed of his three (3) laptops, three (3) phones, cash sum of Forty-eight
thousand Naira (N48,000.00), wedding ring and a Toyota Yaris Saloon car with Reg.
No LAGOS KRD 452 CK.
INVESTIGATION: Upon the receipt of the complaint, operatives from CP Special
Squad, embarked on tracking intelligence and that led to the arrest of two of the
robbers at Mushin area of Lagos and the recovery of the snatched vehicle. During
interrogation, the robbers gave their names as Adura Akinyode ‘m’ and Joseph
Thomas ‘m’. It was revealed that the robbers are among the hoodlums involved in car
snatching in Lagos and its environs and they are assisting the operatives in the
arrest of their gang members at large.
STATUS OF THE CASE: Investigation concluded and the case has been charged to
court.
(2) CASE OF UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARMS AND CULTISM

FACTS OF THE CASE: On the 25/2/2021 at about 1552hrs, while the operatives
attached to Oke-Odo Police Station were on stop and search duty, they intercepted
a motorcyclist carrying two (2) young men. In a bit to search them, one of them
jumped off the motorcycle and took to his heels while others were apprehended.
When they were searched, a cut-to-size locally-made gun and criminal charms were
recovered from them.
INVESTIGATION: Upon the arrest of the suspects and during interrogation, they
gave their names as Samuel Ayoola ‘m’, Lawrence Babatunde ‘m’ and confessed to be
members of Aiye Confraternity. It was revealed that the suspects were planning an
attack on the rival cult members before they met their waterloo.
STATUS OF THE CASE: Investigation concluded and the case has been charged
court.

FACTS OF THE CASE: On the 21/2/2021 at about 1400hrs, information was
received from a reliable source that some members of Aiye confraternity were
sighted holding a meeting at M12 Hotel, Rofo Street, Ikorodu Lagos and planning an
attack against the rival cult members.
INVESTIGATION: Upon the receipt of the information, Police operatives were
drafted to closely monitor the area and seven (7) of the suspects namely Tochukwu
Udoye ‘m’, Chukwudi Agboje ‘m’, Osunde Bright ‘m’, Segun Ojo ‘m’, Joseph Enang ‘m’,
Ige Abdulmalik ‘m’ and Austin Paul ‘m’ were arrested while others escaped. The
suspects were immediately searched and one locally-made single-barrel-gun with one
unexpended cartridge was recovered. It was revealed that the suspects were
notorious cultists disturbing the peace of Ikorodu before luck ran against them.
STATUS OF THE CASE: Investigation concluded and the case has been charged
to court.
(4) CASE OF CONSPIRACY AND ARMED ROBBERY

FACTS OF THE CASE: On the 21/1/2021 at about 0120hrs, a group of armed men
numbering over twelve (12) besieged the premises of Flakes Ventures warehouse at
Epe Lagos. They tied the hands and legs of the security men on duty. Thereafter,
they broke into the warehouse and evacuated all the electronics there-in into a
truck they came with and departed to unknown destination.
INVESTIGATION: Upon the receipt of the complaint, operatives swung into action
and embarked on tracking intelligence that led to the arrest of the following
suspects: Kayode Ayodele ‘m’, Abolore Salaudeen ‘m’, Jamiu Bakare m’ and Afolabi
Fatai ‘m’ and recovery of a Volvo truck with Reg. No. AGL 102 XM that was used in
the evacuation of the stolen items. However, some of the stolen items such as
Televisions, DVD player were equally recovered from the suspects.
STATUS OF THE CASE: The suspects have been charged to Magistrate Court 1,
Ogba, on 22nd February, 2021, for armed robbery.
(5) IMPERSONATION, HIJACKING AND DIVERSION OF
CONTAINERS
This deals with a case of impersonation, Stealing and Conduct Likely to Cause
Breach of Peace which was initially reported at Area ’B’ Command Headquarters
and subsequently transferred to the SCID Yaba, for discreet investigation.
FACT: On 01/02/2021, at about 1100hrs some suspects, named Chijoke Okoro
‘m’ Chijoke Joseph, ‘m’ Gideon Ijachi ‘m’ Daniel Abraham ‘m’, Nsika Eket ‘m’
Stanley Akparakwu ‘m’, Augustine Dosu ‘m’, Solomon Emeka ‘m’, and
Benjamin Steve ‘m’, were arrested for hijacking and diverting two containers

load of goods, claiming they got an instruction to confiscate same from the
office of National Security Adviser (ONSA).
Meanwhile, the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) has debunked the
claims, stressing that they didn’t know the suspects neither had any relationship
with them.

(6) MURDER
On 3/3/2021 at about 0700hrs, one Alhaji Malami Ibrahim ‘m’ of Alaba
Rago Market, Ojo Lagos reported that 0300hrs of date, he received a call from
Tasks Force officials that one Ikechukwu Michael ‘m’, of Abuja Line Alaba Rago,
allegedly stabbed his girlfriend named Chinyere Orji ‘f’, aged 38yrs to death
during a fight that ensued between them. The suspect claimed the deceased was
a prostitute, hence prevented her from going out in the night for her usual
hustling. Serious marks of violence were seen on the deceased. The suspect will
soon be charged to court.

(7) FATAL MOTOR ACCIDENT/DISREGARDS/MISTREATMENT OF
CORPSE:
On 3/3/2021 at about 1500hrs, at Ikeja under Brigde, one Anita Harrison
‘f’ allegedly knocked down one Nofiat Idowu ‘f’, of an address yet unknown
with her LEXUS 300 SUV. The suspect swiftly rushed her to a nearby

Hospital for medical treatment, where she was confirmed dead. She
thereafter dumped the corpse in the bush along the Lagos-Ibadan
Expressway. The corpse was later recovered and the suspect arrested. The
suspect will soon be charged to court.

(8) CULTISM/ARSON/MALICIUOS DAMAGE/BREACH OF PUBLIC
PEACE
FACT: On Wednesday, 17th March 2021, at about 6.30am, a clash ensued
between some suspected cultists at Ikosi/Ketu fruits market where some
property and shops were destroyed and set ablaze. In the process,
policemen were dispatched to the area to quench the crisis and restore
normalcy when fifteen (15) suspects were arrested.
SUSPECTS: Kazeem Olayiwola ‘m’, Lekan Kuyu ‘m’, Roti Azeez ‘m’, Sikiru
Idayi ‘m’, Michael Odofin ‘m’, Chisom Nelson ‘m’, Taofeek Lawal “m’, Sunday
Ogunleye ‘m’’ , Lucky Ohonsin ‘m’’ Isiaka Fijabi ‘m’’ Muritala Akinwale ‘m’ and
Mujida Latifat ‘f’.

charms.
(9) MURDER/DEATH OF LASTMA OFFICIAL
On 16th March, 2021, at about 3.20pm, some hoodlums attacked
LASMA officials while on official duty under the Anthony Bridge,
along Ikorodu Expressway and inflicted injuries on them. Policemen
were dispatched to rescue the LASTMA officials as seven (7) of the
hoodlums were arrested. Unfortunately, the severely injured official,
OLUSEGUN GODWIN OBASU, m, who was rushed to Gbagada

General Hospital and later referred to LASUTH, gave up the ghost
at the hospital.

(10) RAID/ARREST OF SUSPECTED CULTIST/ARMED ROBBERS
In continuation of the Command’s plan to raid and get Lagos State rid
of criminals/cultists, the Command’s Strike Team, in conjunction with
the local Vigilante Groups in Ikorodu axis, between Friday 19th
March, 2021 and Sunday 21st March, 2021 raided some criminals’
hideouts at Ikorodu, Imota and Agbowa where Twenty Eight (28)
suspected cultists and armed robbers were arrested. In addition, on
21st March, 2021, at about 1.30am, the same squad stormed a forest,
which has been identified as a hideout for suspected cultists/armed
robbers at Ajegunle, a border town between Lagos and Ogun States.
The hoodlums engaged the squad in a gun duel before three (3) of
the suspected armed robbers were arrested.
SUSPECTS: Thirty One (31) suspects were arrested

(11) CHILD STEALING
On 19th March, at about 3.45pm, one Onyechukwu Okafor, f, 20,
reported to the Police at Satellite Division that her son, one
Chimuanya Okafor, m, five (5) month old, was forcefully taken away
by one Chinyere Okechukwu, f, 40, of No 24, Muyiwa Opalyeye
Street Surulere and sold him for Nine Hundred Thousand Naira only
(#900,000) to one Happiness Ibebuilo, f, of Iyana Oba Lagos. Police
swung into action and moved to the house of one Ibebuilo Paul, m, 45,
in whose custody the stolen child was recovered. The suspects were
eventually arrested by the Police.

(12) ARREST OF SUSPECTED TRAFFIC ROBBERS
On 20th March, 2021 at about 8pm, the Anti Crime patrol team
attached to Satellite Division, while on patrol by Oluti Expressway,
rounded up three (3) suspected Traffic Robbers that robbed
commuters of their belongings. Some of the stolen items were

recovered from them. One of the victims, name withheld, who
resides at Plot 2, Festac Extension, Abule Ado, Lagos, has identified
the suspects to be those that robbed him in the traffic. He however
sustained matchet cut injuries on his arm

PROTECTION OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS
In its bid to provide adequate security for both public and private schools in
Lagos State, the Lagos State Police Command has designed an Operation Order
to cater for deployment of personnel, surveillance, Patrol and strict monitoring
of schools’ and students’ activities across the state. The command has also
established a synergy between the schools, parents, communities and other
security agencies in the state on the need to improve of the existing security
architecture in various schools with a view to forestall any attacks or ugly
incidents.
CONCLUSION
Owing to the statistics, cases and incidents highlighted above, it is clear that the
police, with the help of the general public, have done tremendously in combating
crimes and criminality within the state and halting the spread of COVID-19

pandemic which has become more deadly with its more than 50 variants.
Emphatically, let me reassure you that the Command will do the needful in making
sure that the concept of community policing is acceptable and practicable in Lagos
State to incorporate all and sundry into policing and security architecture of the
state with a view to improving on the general security and public safety of Lagos
State.
