As a way of tackling unemployment and poverty facing the youths in the country, unemployed youths numbering fifty in the Oshodi-Isolo area of Lagos State are currently undergoing a five days capacity building programme.
The capacity building programme is organised by a member of House of Representatives representing oshodi-isolo constituency one, Doctor Bashiru Dawodu.
While declaring the programme open, Doctor Dawodu, noted that there was need for unemployed youths to be engaged through various Leadership and vocation training, which would empower them to be employers of labour rather than Job seekers.
He appealed to youth across the country not to rely on white collar jobs but, rather look inward by aquiring skills.
According to him, Youth are the greatest assets that any Nation can have and Nigeria is said to be endowed with youth population, it is therefore pertinent for the youth to be engaged, as they are critical to the sustaninance of National development.
Dr. Dawodu noted that unemployment was the major cause of the EndSARS crisis and other criminal activities.
According to him, the crucial thing to do now is to empower the youths to engage them in gainful jobs especially the vocational jobs to make them financial independent.
He noted that the rate of youth unrests in the community would be reduced if many of them are engaged in jobs where they can make money.
The lawmaker explained that the National Assembly is doing everything possible to make sure that the youths are in the forefront to implement the changes that will positively make impact in their lives.
Participants appreciated Dr Dawodu for the gesture, while promising to make the best use of the knowledge acquired.
