In its commitment to upholding Law and Order in the State, as espoused in the T.H.E.M.E.S Developmental Agenda of the Lagos State Government, the Citizens’ Mediation Centre, CMC, in the month of October 2020, amicably resolved five hundred and sixteen cases spanning a wide range of issues such as landlord/tenancy, land disputes and monetary claims, among others.


According to the CMC monthly activity report released, the total number of cases received during the period were eight hundred and twenty out of which five hundred and sixteen cases were successfully settled, while eighty-six cases were referred to appropriate Agencies of Government.


The report shows that one hundred and four cases were terminated due to non-attendance at mediation sessions by the parties involved, while one hundred and fourteen cases are currently adjourned for further mediation.


The reports further showed that the Centre recovered Twenty-three million, Six hundred and Fifty-six thousand, One hundred and Thirty-one Naira (N23, 656,131) on behalf of parties in the month of October, being the total value of settlement of debt related matters.


According to the Director, CMC, Abiola Oseni, this is a laudable achievement, urging the public to always embrace Alternative Disputes Resolution (ADR) in settling their matters.


She added that not everybody can afford to pay for legal representation, but with the CMC, people should begin to realise that ADR is the only way of getting justice without having to pay for it.
