Lagos State government has listed out about twenty ongoing criminal cases in courts that personnels of the state Ministry of Justice are currently prosecuting against erring policemen who had trampled on the fundamental human rights of Lagosians.
According to the Justice Ministry, the twenty policemen are facing prosecution for charges ranges from murder to other offences.
It says they are facing murder and attempted murder in various courts, saying seven are facing charges of various degrees of manslaughter, three cases of armed robbery/conspiracy and one grievous bodily harm.
Its Director Public Affairs, Kayode Oyekanmi says the policemen facing charges include Inspector Surulere Irede, Sergeant Sunday Ogunyemi, Corporals Ezekiel Babatunde, Ogunyemi Olalekan, Sergeant’s Gbanwuan Isaac, Aminu Joseph, Alechenu Benedict, Adebayo Abdullahi, Inspectors A. Mohammed, and Mathew Ohansi.
Others include Sergeant Segun Okun, Capt Adekunle Oluwarotimi, Adamu Dare, Sergeant Mark Argo, Corporal Pepple Boma, Inspector Emmanuel Akpobana, Emmanuel Uyankweke, Akanbi Lookman, Edokhe Omokhue, Afolabi Saka, Monday Gabriel, Yahya Adesina, and Aremu Museliu.
Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo said the state had always been committed to the prosecution of erring security officers.
Onigbanjo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria enjoined the public to keep track of the cases as state lawyers diligently prosecute them in their interest.
