Lagos State Government has underscored the importance of Letter of Administration in the management of properties of deceased persons who die interstate.
It noted with dismay the attitude of most residents of the State to the document.
Its Administrator General, Omotola Rotimi described a Letter of Administration as a legal authority granted to either the deceased next of kin or the Administrator General to administer the property of a person who died without a will.
Contrary to the belief of some residents of the State about difficulties encountered in obtaining the document, the State Administrator-General advised residents to commence the process of getting the letter immediately after the demise of their beloved persons who died intestate.
Rotimi stressed that that the Letter of Administration is so important because without it, the beneficiaries cannot have access to the estate of their late relatives or take possession of any of the properties of the deceased.
She said the Letter of Administration also allows beneficiaries to gain access to wealth if the deceased especially from financial institutions and insurance companies.
According to her, those who do not have the means or who do not know how to go about the Letter of Administration can contact the office of the Administrator General and Public Trustees under the Ministry of Justice at Block 3, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja or call the office landline on 01 453 1820 for necessary assistance.”
Her comment is contained in a statement by Public Affairs Officer Office of Administrator General and Public Trustee, Omisore Babatunde.
