For illegal residents of shanties and make-shift structures in Idera area of Ibeju Likke, it is time-up as the Lagos State Government has issued them with a 7 day ultimatum to vacate the environment and move their property without further delay or incur the wrath of bulldozers that would soon come roaring on these structures.

The same applies to illegal food vendors and occupiers of Apapa Tin Can Park as the State Government was poised to give the area a new look.

Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force on Environment and Miscellaneous Offences, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi who gave the warning for an impending demolition of these structures weekend, said that aside constituting an eyesore in the highly priced Ibeju-Lekki community in Lagos State, they also encroached on Idera land scheme.

A statement signed by the head of Public Affairs Unit of the Task Force, Adebayo Taofiq said the need for the state government to act became necessary because some fraudulent individuals were using the land to milk unsuspecting persons of their hard earned income through illegal sale of portions of the land.

According to Taofiq, “The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Taskforce) had concluded all arrangement to demolish illegal structures encroached on ‘Idera Land Scheme’ in lbeju Lekki. The

Egbeyemi disclosed that all illegal structures and shanties encroached on ‘Idera Land Scheme’, Ibeju Lekki would be demolished on Wednesday, 19th of August, 2020 after the expiration of the 7 days ‘Removal Order’ served by the Agency.

Egbeyemi disclosed further that the Government had observed with dismay the massive encroachment by individuals, private estate developers and land speculators on lands using them to defraud innocent members of public into purchasing parcels of land within government acquisition areas across the State particularly around Ibeju-Lekki corridor.

He implored Lagosians who are interested in purchasing lands in the Stat to first verify the Land records at the State Land Registry or Surveyor General’s Office where millions of land documents are stored in the ‘Electronic Data Management System (EDMS)’ consisting details of documented lands and properties in Lagos in order not to be swindled by land speculators.

All illegal structures and buildings constructed on State lands by person, companies or institutions without valid titles from the Government across the State would be removed”, he added.

Continuing, the statement added, “The Chairman also warned miscreants, illegal mechanics, food vendors and owners of illegal shanties within Apapa Tin Can Island Park to vacate within 7 days as the entire area is set to be redeveloped and given a new look in line with the T.H.E.M.E agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led in transforming the State into a functional and efficient model Mega-City.

He ascertained that a situation where illegal squatters jumped on Government Acquired Land to erect illegal structures and shanties would no longer be tolerated by the government.”
