A total of fifty suspects have been arrested for rape, defilement, and domestic violence in various parts of Lagos State.
Police Commissioner, Hakeem Odumosu, disclosed this while giving an update on the successes recorded by personnel of the Command in the last one month.

Odumosu, who said the suspects were arrested in the last one month, noted that twenty-nine suspects were arrested for rape and defilement; twenty-one suspects were arrested for domestic violence.

The police commissioner noted that two suspects were also arrested for child abuse with manyothers apprehended for various crimes in the state.
According to him, 27 armed robbery suspects and 15 traffic robbery suspects were arrested within the last one month.

Odumosu added that the police successfully foiled 22 traffic robbery attempts while two armed robbery suspects died during the exchange of fire with security operatives.

On cultism, he said, ”We arrested 39 suspects for cultism and have successfully prevented the annual 7/7 and 8/8 celebrations by the cultists.”
“Four suspects were arrested for kidnapping and 19 suspects were arrested for murder. The Command prevented seven suicide attempts. All the suspects were charged to court,” the police commissioner stated.
He revealed that the police recovered 10 assorted firearms with lots of ammunition of different calibre, cutlasses, axes, and other dangerous weapons and charms from the suspects.
Odumosu, who said the police also recovered three stolen vehicles, believes the command has successfully nipped in the bud the menace of kidnapping in Lagos, especially on the waterways.
He assured the residents of the state that the police would continue to ensure the safety of their lives and properties.
The police boss said the command arrested 153 people for violating the face mask and social distancing protocols in Lagos State.
He noted that 98 people were arrested for not wearing face masks and 55 others apprehended for not maintaining social distancing.
Odumosu explained that the figures were among the 769 violators arrested in the last one month for violating the COVID-19 protocols of the state government.
“On COVID-19 enforcement, the Command has successfully arrested 769 violators. Out of the number, 515 were arrested for violating curfew … and 101 arrested for interstates travel during the curfew.
“Three hundred and forty vehicles were impounded, which include 20 vehicles intercepted for inter-states travel. 1,259 motorcycles and 21 tricycles were also impounded,” he said while giving an update of the progress made by the police.
The police commissioner also disclosed that the command has arrested 50 suspects for rape, defilement, and domestic violence in various parts of the state.
He noted that two suspects were also arrested for child abuse while many others were apprehended for various crimes in the state.
‘One Chance Robbery’
On traffic robbery, he said, “Let me use this opportunity to sound a big warning to traffic robbers and one chance robbery syndicates in Lagos State, their days as numbered, we are all out for them.
“I have set up special operations to be coordinated by Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers. They will be supported by SARS operatives and Taskforce.”
Odumosu gave an assurance that the command would continue to dominate the public space and sustain the gains recorded in the fight against crime and social disorder in the state.

Odumosu recounted the Command many efforts in safeguarding life and properties in the metropolitan city in the last one month, disclosing that his men arrested driver and owner of the unlashed container vehicle that killed three persons at Ilasamaja area of the city along Oshodi/Apapa Express way, on July 26, 2020.
It should be recalled that on this fateful day, two trucks carrying containers were coming from Oshodi/Apapa express way inward Mile two on high speed; at llasamaja bus stop, one of the trucks lost control and fell on a commercial bus.
Two passengers of the bus died on the spot while three others sustained various degree of injuries. The casualties were rushed to Isolo General Hospital for treatment where another occupant of the bus died bringing the death casualty to three.
The truck driver, Okanlawon Sodiq, who fled the scene of the accident, was arrested by a team of detectives from Ilasamanja division on August 7, 2020.
The truck owner, Wasiu Lekan was also arrested for operating an unlashed container. The CP who said that the suspects will be prosecuted warns operators of containers to comply with safety rules especially lashing their containers or face the full weight of the law.
In a same vein, the CP disclosed that on July 29, 2020, the Force Marine operatives arrested driver of a commercial boat, Mount Zion Transport, Elebiju Bimbo for putting the lives of his passengers at risk leading to the death of 12, and three missing out of his 20 passengers.
The boat was travelling from Kirikiri to Badagry, but soon drifted to a stationary barge and capsized along Kirikiri waterfront.
According to the CP, investigation revealed that an argument between the Deckhand (conductor) and the passengers over the amount to be paid as fare as culprit.
The driver, was said to have insisted on N1,500.00 per passenger whereas the passengers insisted on the payment of N1,200.00 each hence in the frenzy of the argument, the driver turned off the boat engine on a turbulent waterfront. A big ship passed and stirred the water, creating a wave that drifted the boat to the stationary barge.
The suspect the CP said will be charged to Court.
As the hypes against rape and sexual violence continue to be on the front burner of domestic issues, the Lagos Police Command in the time under review arrested 29 rape and defilement suspects, 21 domestic violence suspects and two child abuse suspects as all of the suspects have been charged to Court.

The Police in Lagos have arrested 13 suspected traffic robbers for attacking residents in different parts of the state.
The suspects, Ismail Tosin, 23, Lukman Nojeem, 18, Segun Ade, 20, Rafiu Jamiu, 29, Lateef Yusuf, 28, Mabinuola Wale, 20, Taiwo Hazan, 19, Adeleke Oluwasegun, 17, Adeniji Saliu, 18, Bamidele Oluwatobi, 33, Sodiq Sanni, 32, and Gabriel Paul Friday, 21 were arrested between June 27 and August 13 at Oshodi, Ikorodu and Badagry Expressway.
According to the police, the first nine suspects were seen around Cappa/Nitel in Oshodi and suspected to have sinister motives.
Detectives from Mushin division were said to have been deployed to the location where nine of the hoodlums were caught with a locally made rifle that had the inscription S.S.C, a long jack knife and cutlasses recovered from them.
“The gang is responsible for series of robberies mostly in traffic around CAPPA-Oshodi and environs.
“On July 19, at about 10:10am, policemen on stop and search duty at Owutu, Ikorodu, intercepted a taxi with two passengers reasonably suspected to be traffic robbers.
“Upon sighting the police, the suspects jumped out and took to their heels.
They were given a hot chase and eventually arrested. One locally made single barrel gun with five live cartridges, one battle axe and a knife were recovered from them. “They confessed to be members of AIYE confraternity terrorising Ikorodu and environs.
“On June 27, at about 6am, information was also received from a reliable source that some group of armed robbers were sighted at MTN Bus Stop along Lagos-Badagry Expressway robbing unsuspecting victims of their valuables.
“Upon the receipt of the information, operatives from Morogbo Division and SARS were mobilised to the scene.
On sighting the operatives, the armed robbers scampered to different direction to avoid arrest but were given a manhunt.
“In the process, one of the robbers named Gabriel Paul Friday, 21, was arrested while others escaped. He was immediately searched and a cut to size locally made pistol with five live cartridges were recovered from him.
The suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is completed,” said the police.
