Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede has reiterated his commitment to rid the Service of drug abusers.
To effect this, a two step test will soon be carried out on this with visible and confirmed cases of drug abuse for rehabilitation.
Further more, they will be appropriately sanctioned to deter others and sanitised the system.
National Public Relations Officer of NIS Sunday James, a Deputy Comptroller, who made the disclosure in a release, said the directive was issued by the Comptroller General during a virtual parade.
James said the Comptroller’s resolve has immediately been communicated to all the officers and men of the service.
According to the release, Babandede noted that every effort put up by any organization to rid its employees of drug abuse will increase productivity, efficiency and effectiveness and gain public confidence.
The Comptroller who asserted that arm bearing personnel must avoid drug abuse in whatever form.
He encouraged the NIS personnel and indeed all stakeholders to imbibe a safe and healthy attitude in handling drugs, only to heal and cure ailments not to be abused.
The release reads, ” The Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service Muhammad Babandede MFR at the Virtual Comptroller General parade reiterated his commitment and intention to rid the NIS of Drug abusers, as contained in his speech during the Virtual parade and communicated to all the officers and men of the service.
Drug induced misbehaviors or misdeeds are negative effects of Drug abuse which has severe effects on Nations and Societies safety and well-being of innocent citizens, more so for arm carrying agencies of government, the arm carrying personnel must avoid drug abuse in whatever form to safeguard lives.
The responsibility of an organization or agency of state can be measured by the level of discipline of its workforce, hence during one of the passing out parade of the NIS cadet Assistant Superintendents in Kano in 2019,the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service announced a Zero tolerance for Drug Abuse with the commitment that ” the test will start with him” he has not reneged on these noble cause of reforming the NIS health wise and enhancing the emotional stability of officers and men at work for effective and efficient discharge of their duties.
The Comptroller General Babandede renewed effort to fight drug abuse and drug induced misbehaviors among the service personnel is an examplary leadership style, as every effort put up by any organization to rid its employees of drug abuse will increase productivity, efficiency and effectiveness and gain public confidence.
On this note, he said that a two step test will be carried out on those with visible and confirmed cases of drug abuse for rehabilitation and if they cannot be rehabilitated due to personal attitude and negligence, they will be appropriately sanctioned to deter others and sanitise the system.
On the International Day Against Drug Abuse, he encouraged the NIS personnel and indeed all stakeholders to imbibe a safe and healthy attitude in handling drugs, only to heal and cure ailments not to be abused”.
Immigration, friends pay glowing tribute to retiring Passports command boss
It was tribute and praise galore for retiring Lagos Passports boss of Immigration Service, Comptroller Anne Agbim as officers and friends of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), held a special valedictory session to honour her in Lagos.
She is bowing out of service after 35 years of meritorious and unblemished service to nation.
Agbim became the Comptroller, Passport Command, Lagos on July 3, 2019.
She joined the Immigration Service in 1985 and has served in several states, including Cross Rivers, Ekiti, Sokoto, Ogun, Kano and Seme Border Command.
The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mohammed Babandede, at the valedictory service held in Lagos described her as “wisdom personified official that served in NIS without any blemish”.
According to Babandede, Agbim was committed to work and never compromised the values of the service.
Babandede, who was represented by the Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) in charge of Zone A, Mohammed Alfa urged other officers to imbibe the good legacies left behind by Agbim, by displaying good work ethics.
He noted that many officials might not be able to stand boldly or have valedictory session held for them in the way the service did for Agbim.
“I plead with all officials to learn from what is happening today. Agbim is getting NIS honours today because her performance is superb,”
Babandede said.
“She ensured that the activities of touts, all forms of indiscipline and sharp practices in Passport commands were stopped,” he said.
Also, the Passport Control Officer (PCO) in–charge of Ikoyi Passport office, Manir Yari, commended the outgoing passport boss for giving Lagos command a good image.
He recalled that Passport command was carved out as a seperate command in 2011 to fastrack Passports services in the country.
According to Yari, Agbim rendered all necessary support to Ikoyi Passport office to enable it to migrate to the new non-tearable system that was launched by President Mohammadu Buhari in 2019.
Similarly, the Comptroller of Immigration Service (CIS) in- Charge of Seme border patrol, Lawrence Akpobi, commended Agbim for emphasising the importance of tenacity in NIS job.
“We are very proud to associate with you,” Akpobi said.
Agbim, in her vote of thanks, commended Babandede for repositioning NIS for maximum performance.
“I am humbled to have served 35 years meritoriously in NIS, these years have been the best of my life.
“I have been trained, enjoyed loyalty and collaborations.
“The CGI remains my mentor. I thank him so much for giving me the opportunity to serve. He has invested in all of us and taken Immigration Service to greater heights. His rise to the top is a testimony that God is great.”
