Reggae music icon, Majekodunmi Fasheke, well known as Majek Fashek, has died, according to his manager, Omenka Uzoma.
In an Instagram post early Tuesday, Uzoma said Majek Fashek “has gone to be with the Lord, his Maker.”

The singer who became popular for hits such as ‘send down the rain’, ‘so long, too long’, and many others died in New York after a protracted battle with cancer.
He had earlier been hospitalised at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in London in November 2019.
Majek Fashek, also nicknamed the Rainmaker, was a Nigerian internationally acclaimed reggae music legend who was signed to American music imprint, Interscope Music.
He was aged 57 and he enjoyed a music career that spanned over three decades.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo and Laurreta Onochie, an Aide to President Muhammadu Buhari have reacted to the death of the legendary Reggae star, Majek Fashek.
The Raggae star a.k.a rain maker, died after battling with cancer for nearly a year.
Uzoma Omenka, his manager confirmed the news of his death on the singer’s Instagram page on Tuesday, adding that the Raggae Star also known as Rain Maker died at 11.45 pm on June 1, Nigerian time.
Omenka said the singer died in New York, where he was receiving treatment, adding that the doctors advised he should be moved close to his family, which informed his being moved to New York where his wife and three sons live.
He said contrary to insinuation that the Raggae legend died in London, he was moved from London to New York in September 2020 on the advice of the doctors that he should stay close to the family.
He said Majek was separated from his family for 10 years until last year when they were reunited on the advice of his doctors that he should be close to his family.
Majek was said to have died at age of 57 as he was born March 7, 1963.
However, the minister in a tweet said, ” R.I.P my big brother, Mr. Majekodunmi Fasheke (aka Majek Fashek), the ‘Rain Maker’ and extraordinarily gifted musician.
“They don’t make them like you anymore. Your remake of the song Hotel California remains one of my favorites and, of course, the ever green, Send Down the Rain!” Keyamo said.
Similar, Senator Shehu Sani inrin histhis reaction said, “some years ago I met Majek Fashek near a train station in New York before he returned to Nigeria, he was a shadow of the man many of us loved decades ago.
According to him, Majek rode through a rough and dangerous terrain in life, he tried to pick up and now is gone, he was an unforgettable legend.
Laurreta Onochie, an Aide to President Muhammadu Buhari said ” at last he rests, he escapes the life that held him captive.
According to her, h”escaped a world where talented people are milked till nothing is left; where no vice can touch him.
“But we won’t forget you as younger people, your music moved our feet and gladdened our souls, sleep well,” she said.
Nigerian celebrities have taken to their social media platforms to mourn the death of Music Legend, Majekodunmi Fasheke, a.k.a Majek Fashek.
Fashek’s a.k.a rain maker’s death was announced by his manager, Omenka Uzoma, through a short video on his instagram page.
Some of the celebrities include Chibuzor Azubuike a.k.a phyno , Olanrewaju Fasasi, a.k.a Sound Sultan displayed the reggae artist pictures on their Instagram pages
Other include Yomi Black, Bimbo Esho, actress Toyin Adegbola and Jude Okoye were not equally left out.
Also, Bimbo Esho, Chief Executive Officer, Evergreen Musical Company, mourned the late reggae maestro as she wrote ” Adieu Majek Fashek. May you journey well. The Rainmaker takes a final bow to the cold hands of death.
Actress Toyin Adegbola said “Rest in peace, Majek.”
Jude Okoye, Chief Executive Officer of Northside Music, also wrote: “Rest peacefully, my Legend.”
Fashek died June 1, at the age of 57, in a hospital in New York.
Fashek was a Nigerian singer, songwriter and guitarist, who was best known for his 1988 album ” Prisoner of Conscience”, which included the multiple award-winning single, “Send Down the Rain”.
Fashek, worked with various artists worldwide, including Tracy Chapman, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg and Beyonce.
Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has mourned Reggae music icon, Majek Fashek, who died on Tuesday at the age of 57.
The news of Fashek’s death was shared on Tuesday morning by his manager Omenka Uzoma.
“Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the Africa No 1 legendary icon has gone to be with the LORD his Maker. Let’s celebrate him, his achievements and his family, whatever decisions made by his immediate family will be notified,” Uzoma wrote on the official Instagram handle of the music legend.
Obaseki in response to this joined other Nigerians in paying tributes. He described Fashek as a maverick musician who took the world by storm with his “enigmatic talent.”
“I mourn the death of quintessential, maverick musician and Edo son, Majek Fashek.
“Fashek, who took the world by storm with his enigmatic talent, remains one of the finest cultural icons of his age and would be remembered for his disarming craft and skill,” Obaseki tweeted.
Born in Benin, Edo State capital, with real names Majekodunmi Fasheke, the icon was known for hits such as ‘Send Down The Rain’, ‘So Long, Too Long’, and many others.
He died in New York after a protracted battle with cancer.
