A total number of 1,434 offenders were arrested within one week for violating the curfew order imposed on Lagos State, non wearing of face mask and social distancing directive.
Similarly, 123 vehicles were impounded, which include 25 vehicles intercepted for interstates travel under the period in review.
Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu added that 332 motorcycles and 29 tricycles were also impounded within the period.
Odumosu made the disclosure while updating the media on the activities of the command in the last one week.
Giving the breakdown, he said 820 out of the number were arrested for violating curfew, 134 arrested for not wearing face mask, 80 arrested for not maintaining social distance and 208 arrested for interstates travel.
According to him, 121 suspects were apprehended for violating the curfew order and 79 vehicles were impounded on the first day of the enforcement, while 58 suspects were arrested for not wearing facemask.
Explaining further, he said, ” With the pronouncement of the gradual easing of the lockdown by the Government with effect from Monday, 4th May, 2020, the Command adopted more effective measures and strategies to enforce the curfew imposed from 8.00pm to 6.00am daily as well as the ban on non-essential inter-states movements.
Our teams were also deployed to ensure that Lagosians obey the guidelines regarding opening and closing time for businesses, workplaces, markets; the use of facemask in public places; number of passengers per commercial vehicle and maintaining social distancing principles.
” On the first day of the enforcement, we arrested 121 suspects for violating the curfew order and 79 vehicles were impounded. 58 suspects were arrested for not wearing facemask.
Within the last one week, the Command has successfully arrested 1,434 violators.

Police operatives enforcing the wearing of face masks order in Lagos, have uncovered how commercial bus drivers are aiding the spreading the CoronaVirus among their passengers.
The trick, according to findings was discovered by the eagle eye operatives deployed to ensure the use of facemasks in public places; number of passengers per commercial vehicle and maintaining social distancing principles.
It was learnt that the drivers buy the facemasks for keep and share among passengers who fail to wear one whenever they approach enforcement officers.
This, they do according to findings to evade arrest and not to lose the passengers.
Immediately they pass through the team, the drivers collect the masks which they subsequently give to other passengers in similar circumstance.
Odumosu explained that the enforcement team, who are well trained in the act, exhibited professional excellence in discovering the trick.
While expantiating on it, he said, ” Drivers help to spreed the virus. They bought many masks which they give to passengers who do not have whenever they approach check points and collect back once they pass. This they do repeatedly and thereby spreed the virus through the passengers”.
Inspite the negative comment by some section of the public, Odumosu vowed to continue with the enforcement of the use of face masks and other directives by the government in order to curtail the spreed of the pandemic.
