Federal Government says it is ready to work closely with the Nigeria Diaspora Voting Council to actualise the participation of Nigerians in diaspora in the country’s elections.
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo said this in Abuja at a Stakeholders’ Workshop organised by the council to address the voting challenges faced by Nigerians in diaspora during elections.
Osinbajo who spoke through Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Political Matters, Babafemi Ojudu, said the present administration had endorsed diaspora voting in totality.

According to the Vice President, Nigerians in the diaspora contribute immensely to the country’s economic growth with their resources and are playing a significant role in the country’s development.
On her part, Chairman/Chief Executive, Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, lauded the dedication, commitment and passion of the Chairman of NDVC, Prince Ade Omole, in the bid to make diaspora voting a reality in the future.
“Nigerians are willing to do anything for their country. We should make diaspora voting possible for our brothers and sisters,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
Earlier, Omole said the stakeholders’ workshop was organised to sensitise Nigerians in diaspora to their voting rights.
According to him, 25 million Nigerians are domiciled abroad and they contribute hugely to the Gross Domestic Product of their host countries.
He noted that in the whole world, Nigerians living abroad accounted for the fifth largest remittances to their home country, after India, China, the Philippines, and Mexico.
