Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, LAGESC, has prosecuted ninety-five persons in twenty-twenty for crossing expressways.

According to the agency, the number of arrests increased due to the officers stepping up the Operation Zero Tolerance to indiscriminate crossing of highways.

Its Corps Marshal, Gbemisola Akinpelu, who gave the figure while briefing her officers at the headquarters, said the operation in Lagos had been extended to many parts of the state.

Akinpelu, a retired Commissioner of Police, said every LAGESC officers on lawful duty must be officially dressed in LAGESC uniform, with name tag on it.

She warned imposters extorting money from the general public in the name of LAGESC to desist from such act.

Akinpelu encouraged pedestrians to make use of the bridges for free flow of traffic and safety of their lives.

She said the agency would continue to clampdown due its zero-tolerance for the indiscriminate crossing of highways a step further by apprehending road users who shun the use of pedestrian bridges across the State.

The Corps Marshal debunked the rumour circulating on the social media that the Lagos State Government has directed LAGESC officials in mufti to arrest people crossing the highways, saying every LAGESC officers on lawful duty must be dressed in official uniforms with their name tags boldly written on them.

While affirming the stance of the Lagos State Government to prevent unnecessary loss of lives and ensure the free flow of traffic on all roads across the metropolis, the Corps Marshal restated the commitment of the Agency to ensuring the arrest and prosecution of defaulters who fail to make use of pedestrian bridges on major roads.
