Lagos State Office of the Public Defender, has taken its free legal services /enlightenment and sensitisation campaign to the staff and students of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu.
Its Director, Olayinka Adeyemi said this at an occasion organised in conjunction with the Student Union Judiciary Council of the Polytechnic, saying the role of the Judiciary in the protection of human rights and development cannot be over emphasised.
According to Adeyemi, the agency had been in the vanguard of championing and protecting the rights of less privileged members of the society, persons living with disability, women and children facing domestic violence in the State.
She reiterated that the core function of the office was to provide free legal services to the defenceless citizens, irrespective of gender and religion.
Adeyemi maintained that anyone who violates the law would be punished and admonished the students of the institution to show moderation in their activities, concentrate on their studies and be obedient to the law.
She urged victims of domestic violence and other complainants to approach the agency for free legal services anytime their rights are violated, assuring that such complaints would be followed up to a logical conclusion.
