Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has embarked on a psychological assessment test for its personnel under Lagos State and Zone A commands.

The Commandant General, Abdullahi Muhammadu, had April this year ordered a psychological test for the personnel nationwide, following the killing of ten Boys Brigade members with a car by its personnel in Gombe State.

The personnel reportedly crashed his car into an Easter procession killing ten Boys’ Brigade members drawn from St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Madaki and two parishes of ECWA Church in Bamusa and Barunde.

The errant officer was subsequently lynched by a mob.

Muhammadu said apart from the testing to re-examine the psychological and physical stability of personnel, the Corps would embark on massive training and retraining programmes for all personnel in line with global best practices.

Lagos State Commandant, Tajudeen Balogun, who declared the screening open, said about 2,500 officers and men would participate in the three-day exercise.

He said the exercise was to get the best out of the officers and men in carrying out their duties.

A Commandant under Zone A command, Florience Adigun, who represented the Assistant Commandant General, Zone A, My Andy Dettar, said the exercise would improve the service delivery of the Corps.

She advised the officers and men to be open to the psychologists and tell them their challenges so that the corps would know how to assist them.

The head of behavioural forensic unit of NSCDC, Abuja, Tersoo Shaapera, said the exercise was legal and compulsory for all corps.

Shaapera said certificate would be issued to them after the screening, saying the exercise would afford the corps the opportunity to have medical data of its personnel.
