Arrested Cultist Suspect Begs Family For Forgiveness.
A 19-year- old self-confessed cultist has appealed to youths to shun cultism and face the future with hope, even as he pleaded with his parents and kinsmen for forgiveness, for bringing their names to disrepute.
Ayo Afiolorunsho, now in police net, was arrested at the weekend by a crack team of police men from Oworosoki police division, led by Superintendent of Police, Nkereuwem Joshua for illegal possession of weapon and being a member of a cult fraternity, Aye.
Bariga and Oworonshoki areas of the state had been the centre of war for the past two weeks leading to the immediate deployment of operatives to the two communities with the mandate of identifying, isolating and apprehending the leaders and members of the gangsters and cult groups.
Afiolorunsho, according to a police source was picked in Oworo area of the Third mainland as the group was planning a deadly attack on another rival cult group, Eiye.
The suspect while speaking with our correspondent said they were arriving Oworonsoki from a meeting in Obalende and had planned to hold another meeting in Oworo, when the team of police operatives from Oworonshoki police division appeared.
On sighting the police, the cultists ran in different directions, however, Afiolorunsho was arrested with a sword, which he said was for self defence.
Afiolorunsho,a 19- year- old vulcanizer, said he was initiated into the Aye cult group early in Ikorodu by other members of the cult who kept threatening him for refusing to become a member.
The second child in a family of six, Ayo, who hails from Arin community in Ijebu Ode area of Ogun state, has pleaded with his parents and kinsmen to forgive him for bringing their names to gross disrepute.
While regretting his membership of the cult group, he called on youths to shun cultism, ‘as there was nothing to gain in it. I regret that I am a member and all the promises made that I will benefit should I join the group was mere deceptive.’
He went on, ‘Since the police arrested me, not one member of the group under any guise has visited me. I am left to my fate. My parents are ashamed of me. I plead with the youths to please shun cultism.’
Ayo, speaking further promise ‘Should I regain my freedom, I would relocate to my village immediately and practice my trade.’
A secondary school dropout, Ayo is sad that he ruined his future. ‘Am finished, my future is gone’, he lamented.
