Ranks of suspected cultists have been depleted by officials of the Lagos State Police Command, as no seventy-three suspects were apprehended at bariga area of the state.
Amongst them are the notorious Awawa Boys and the leader of a group of Aiye Confraternity in Bariga area of the state.
The suspects were at different locations in the state by operaives of Operation Crush and detectives from Divisions.
Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, while giving the breakdown said 34 out of the suspects are Awawa Boys, 38 are Ikorodu youth, while one is the leader of Aiye Confraternity in Bariga.
Elkana, a DSP hinted that the Awawa Boys were arrested at their hideouts within Akerele area of Agege at about 8.30pm on 17th July 2019 during a raid by operatives of the Operation Crush following credible intelligence.
He claimed that the suspects have been terrorising the areas, adding that seven bags of weeds suspected to be indian hemp we’re recovered them.
The police image maker said the suspects have been handed over to the Lagos State Taskforce, Oshodi for prosecution.
According to him, 38 others were arrested during a battle for supremacy by cult groups from Idiroko, Adeola and Ajose of Owutu area of Ikorodu on 16th July, 2019 at about 9.30pm.
” In the process, the youths attacked passersby and damaged some vehicles within the area. However, combined teams of policemen mobilized to the scene, successfully brought the situation under control and restored normalcy to the area. 38 suspects were arrested and taken to Taskforce, Oshodi for prosecution.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed-up in area to forestall further threat to law and order.
In a related development, on” 20th/7/2019 at about 2145hrs Bariga Police Station, arrested one Alayakin Azeez Olawale ‘m’ 32years old at Egbenrogde Street.
The suspect was identified as the leader of a group of Aiye confraternity members that had earlier in the day attempted to cause a breach of peace within Bariga town. Investigation in ongoing, suspect will be charged to Court”, Elkana said.
