President Muhammadu Buhari has called Afenifere leader Reuben Fasoranti over the murder of his daughter, Mrs Funke Olakunri.

Buhari made the call a day after Mrs Olakunri was killed by armed men suspected to be herdsmen on Kajola-Ore road in Ondo State.

President’s special adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said his principal condoled with the grieving nonagenarian during their conversation.

According to a statement by the presidential aide, President Buhari wished Fasoranti the comfort of God and fortitude to bear the great loss.

He also gave assurance that security agencies would spare no effort to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.

In his response, Adesina said the Afenifere leader thanked the President for identifying with him and his family at their time of travail.

He prayed to God to restore peace and amity to the country.

Also, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo paid a condolence visit to the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure, Ondo State to condole with the family over gruesome murder of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin.

The Vice President expressed sadness over the incident and assured of the Federal Government’s determination to deploy soldiers on highways across Nigeria in order to arrest the spate of insecurity in the country.

Olakunrin, daughter of the 94-year-old Yoruba leader, Pa Fasoranti, was on Friday attacked and gunned down along Ore road in Ondo State.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, condemned the murder of Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Afenifere National Leader, Reuben Fasoranti.

The former president described the incident as unfortunate and worrisome, adding that Nigeria is diminished.

“I must say Nigeria as a whole is diminished by the manner of Funke’s death,” he said.

He, however, called on security agencies to bring those responsible for the heinous crime to justice.

“We deplore this dastardly act and seize this opportunity to call on governments at all levels to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that our security agents vigorously pursue and find the perpetrators of such heinous crime and make them face the full weight of the law.

“We must, together, find solution to all acts of insecurity in the country, particularly acts of banditry, kidnapping, robbery and killing by the suspected Fulani herdsmen”.

In the same vein, the former Vice President took to Twitter to condemn the incident, saying it is one death to many.

He also called on security agencies to commence investigations into the case while commiserating with the family of the deceased.

“I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the killing of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Chief Reuben Fasoranti, the Chairman of Afenifere. This is one death too many.

“I call on the security services to initiate speedy and thorough investigations to bring her killers to book and stem the epidemic of insecurity in our land. My prayers and deep compassion go to Chief Reuben Fasoranti, his family and the entire membership of Afenifere” he said.

Senate condole with the family of Afenifere leader and elder statesman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, over Friday’s murder of his daughter, Mrs Funke Olakunrin, along akure-Ore road, in Ondo State.

The Senate through its Ad-hoc Chairman on Media and Public Affairs, Sen. Adedayo Adeyeye, described the gruesome killing of the 58-year-old woman as very sad, devastating and a worrisome development.

Adeyeye said the senate was disturbed by the spate of incessant attacks and wanton killings of citizens either by hired assassins, herdsmen, kidnappers and or other men of the underworld.

He said the perpetrators of the heinous crime were wreaking havoc on the lives and properties of innocent citizens in the country.

Adeyeye said security of life was a fundamental right of every citizen, adding that Nigerians deserved their inalienable right from the government at all times.

He said measures to prevent future occurrence of such incidence should be put in place by improving the security architecture on Nigeria’s highways, at social gatherings and at worship centres nationwide.

“The senate further extends its condolences to the elder statesman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti and the entire family.

“We pray God will console and be with the entire family in this hour of bereavement,’’ Adeyeye said
