Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, Senator Ishaku Abbo, has apologised to Nigerians, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and women in general, following a viral video in which he was seen physically assaulting a lady.
He made the apology at a press conference at the PDP headquarters in Abuja.
The Senator who was close to tears at the briefing asked for forgiveness, saying it is not in his character to assault women.
Abbo was spotted in a sex toy shop hitting a woman after she pleaded with him not to physically assault the shop owner whom he had accused of insulting him.
The viral video immediately sparked outrage with many Nigerians calling for his prosecution and urging the Senate to also discipline him.
Protesters on Wednesday stormed the National Assembly complex in Abuja demanding the prosecution of Senator Elisha Abbo for assaulting a lady at a sex toy shop.

The protesters including popular activist Aisha Yesufu said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker, who is representing Adamawa North Senatorial District must be prosecuted alongside his police orderlies.
The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions, condemning the act assault and demanding justice.
Senator Abbo is in the eye of a storm for attacking and beating up a woman who tried to prevent him and others with him from assaulting another woman in a sex toy shop in Abuja.
The viral video of the assault sparked outrage with many Nigerians calling for his prosecution.
Abbo has since confirmed that he was indeed the man in the video and that he will release a statement soon in that regard.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate has set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the case. Six men and two women were chosen as members of the committee which will be headed by Senator Sam Egwu.
