As part of the efforts of the Lagos State Government in providing succour to victims of various emergency/disasters as well as to mitigate its impact, Lagos State Government has reiterated its readiness to accommodate the affected residents of the ongoing demolished defective/distressed buildings on Lagos Island to the Lagos State Relief/Resettlement Centre Igando, in Alimosho Local Government Area of the State.

Speaking today, while on media tour of the Resettlement Centre in Igando, Commissioner, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Kehinde Bamigbetan said government was working in line with international best practices as it begins the resettling of persons displaced by the on-going demolitions of defective/distressed buildings in Lagos Island Area of the State.

Bamigbetan said Lagos State Emergency Management Agency’s Resettlement Camp/Relief Centre in Igando, which had been approved was ready to accommodate five hundred displaced persons starting from tomorrow.

According to him, the exercise is part of government’s efforts to ensure the effect of losing their homes is mitigated to the barest minimum.

On his part, General Manager Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Adesina Tiamiyu, said the camp would be opened for three months after which government would review the need for an extension.

Tiamiyu also said the camp will be working with the Igando General Hospital in case of referrals, just as he added that the medical team for the camp would arrive tomorrow.

The Igando Resettlement Camp/Relief Centre has five hostels with twenty-two rooms each, four double bunk beds and is capable of accommodating eight persons per room.
