Several victims, including school children are presently trapped under the rubbles of a three story building that suddenly collapsed at Ita-Faji area, Lagos Island.
A primary school is said to be located on the top floor of the building with pupils feared killed and others trapped.
The structure is reported to be a residential building with several apartments.
Emergency and rescue workers are currently at the scene of the incident.
As part of effort to rescue the trapped pupils who were wailing under the rubbles, men of Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, officers of the Rapid Respond Squad, RRS, and other rescue teams have been dispatched to the scene.
Spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Kehinde Adebayo, confirmed the collapse, adding that emergency officials were already on ground.
Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Lagos State, Bala Elkana, when contacted confirmed the collapse of the building, but said the casualty figure could not be ascertained yet.
Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent of Police said rescue operation was on ongoing and that the rescue department in the police had been dispatched to help in the rescue of victims.
