An armed robbery suspect, Damilare Adegbayibi, whom the police described as a notorious killer, has confessed that his gang killed two security guards at Agege, Lagos, for preventing them from carting away motorcycles.

The police said Adegbayibi, who had led his gang to Adewunmi Adebisi Street, Agege, Lagos, to rob, had confessed to stealing over 150 motorcycles in the last nine months.

“We stabbed the security guards to death for refusing to allow us have our way. We did not know that they would die; we only did it to incapacitate them,” the suspect said.

Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who paraded the suspect before newsmen, said detectives had also rounded up four other members of the gang.

Edgal said some members of the public had sent in information on December 15, 2018 that some armed robbers were operating on Adewunmi Adebisi Street.

He said based on the information, a combined team of operatives from the Dopemu police station and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, swiftly mobilized to the scene.

Edgal said on sighting the operatives, the robbers fled but were chased, leading to the arrest of Adegbayibi and the recovery of a cut-to-size locally made single-barrel gun with four unexpended cartridges from him.

“On closer examination of the robbery scene, two lifeless bodies were found on the ground. Further enquiry revealed that they were stabbed to death. The victims were later identified as Alayiwa, surname unknown, a security guard attached to the street and Ibrahim Akinbunmi, a resident of Adewunmi Adebisi Street.

“The suspect led our operatives on January 29, 2019 to arrest four other members of the gang namely, Ojesola Osundairo, Basiru Suleiman, Rasak Osunmade and Haruna Ibrahim, from whom two additional cut-to- size locally made guns with six live cartridges were recovered.

“It was discovered that the robbers, apart from robbing unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables, also specialized in stealing motorcycles in Agege, Dopemu and other parts of Lagos, which they sell to their receiver, Ibrahim Haruna. They further confessed to have sold over 150 motorcycles to Ibrahim Haruna, out of which 11 had been recovered,” he said.
