Personnel of the Nigerian Police Force will conduct themselves professionally before, during and after the general elections.

According to the force, the Personnel will remain professional in their conduct before, during and after the elections, they will provide a level playing field for all the candidates in the process.

Its Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu says it has made adequate provisions to provide security at polling booths and collation centres.

Adamu gave the assurance when the British High Commissioner, the European Union representative in Nigeria, Heads of Mission of United States, France and Germany paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja, seeking advice from them so that the force can improve in its operations.

Adamu said the European Union and the United States had contributed much to the development of policing in Nigeria by providing high quality training and support.

In her remarks, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing said her county was supporting the police in a wide range of areas.

Laing said other areas included public accountability, service delivery and coordination ahead of the general elections.

She said Britain was also supporting the police in the training of Divisional Police Officers across the six geopolitical zones.

The envoy said the country was also supporting in the coordination of security with the Independent National Electoral Commission.

On his part, the United States Deputy Head of Mission, David Young said the United States have projects such as the Transition Police Units in the country.

Young said other supporting initiatives included provision of jackets and helmets for policemen deployed to the North East of Nigeria and advisers working with the police.

He said again, they value very much their cooperation and engagement and look forward to deepening them to face the security challenges facing your country.

Meanwhile, the acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has assured the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of adequate security arrangements for the twenty-nineteen general elections.

Adamu gave the assurance, at the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security meeting, in Abuja, saying all polling units and voting points will be manned by at least three security personnel with the Police taking the lead, while units of mobile policemen will be deployed to patrol all the country’s senatorial districts.

He said further promised that all collation centres across the country, from the ward to state levels will also be adequately protected, saying the Federal Government has provided the Police with the required resources to carry out its duties during the general elections.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu welcomed the Police Chief’s willingness to partner with the Commission for the successful conduct of the polls.
