Two operatives of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps,LNSC, have reportedly sustained gun shot and machete cut injury during a violent attack on their post by suspected cultists.
One other was also said to have sustained severe injury as he collided with the some objects in the process of scampering for safety.
SCA. Arije Akominasi was shot on his right leg, CA1. Mumuni Olaniran was matcheted on his forehead and and other part of his body, while ACS. Oluwaseun Adeyemi sustained bodily injury while scampering for safety.
The Command’s Corps Superintendent, according to witness, was however lucky as the several bullets shot at him failed to penetrate.
It was reliably learnt that the suspected cultists invaded the Ojo Command Post located along Ojo Jetty Road last Saturday at about 2 :30am, shooting sporadically at everything on sight.
Witness informed that several part of wall of the office were riddled with bullets by the assailants who were armed to the teeth.
The Divisional Police Officer Ojo Division was said to have visited the scene for on the spot assessment at the early hour of the day.
It could not be ascertained if any suspect has been arrested in connection with the attack.
While commenting on the incident the Board Chairman of Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Israel Ajao charged officers of the Corps on the need to assess every situation and make adequate report at the nearest police station before embarking on any operation. during case prosecution.
Ajao emphasised that the agency officers should cultivate good relationship with the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in their jurisdiction as DPOs are meant to provide security for LNSC officers and Posts.
Its Public Affairs Officer, Afolabi Olawale said Ajao gave the admonition in a communiqué issued after a meeting held to access the operational model of the Corps in lieu of the attack on LNSC Officers and Post at Ojo Local Government Area
The statement titled “LNSC TO EMBARK ON OPERATIONAL RISK ASSESSMENTS” reads “Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) Board Chairman, DIG Israel Ajao (rtd) has charged Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) officers on the need to assess every situation and make adequate report at the nearest police station before embarking on any operation.
The Board Chairman disclosed these in a communiqué issued after a meeting held to access the operational model of the Corps on Monday 24th December, 2018 in lieu of the attack on LNSC Officers and Post at Ojo Local Government Area.
DIG Ajao also called on the officers to always engage the services of government hospitals and registered private hospitals for their medical treatments and reports because it is only accepted during case prosecution.
The retired police boss further emphasized that LNSC officers should cultivate good relationship with the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in their jurisdiction as DPOs are meant to provide security for LNSC officers and Posts.
DIG Ajao emphasised on the need to address leadership problem in LNSC pointed out that activities such as illegal duty, gross irresponsibility, conflict between personal interest, business and official matters, indiscriminate arrest, torturing of suspects and unlawful detention of suspects, extortion and over zealousness is bound to constitute threat to the success of the security outfit.
He cautioned LNSC officers against indiscriminate arrest, detention of suspects, torturing of suspects, involvement of private parties, extortion and drinking while on duty.
Ajao directed that cases should be transferred to the police station and DPOs should be alerted in case of fear of attack on LNSC officers or property, Neighbourhood Posts should always be opened, all LNSC Posts should be kept clean and allocated running cost should be used to cover all expenses incurred by LNSC stations.
DIG Ajao further directed all Corps Superintendents (CSs) to be giving weekly reports to their LG/LCDA Chairmen, instill discipline into their officers, work closely with their DPOs and Area Commanders and rededicate themselves to the service.
The security don also stated that civil matters such as husband /wife, landlord/tenant and landed property matters are not the duty of LNSC saying parties in such matters should be advised not to disturb the peace of the community and referred to the nearest mediation centre”.
