Six hundred and sixty-seven cases of domestic and sexual violence have been recorded in Lagos from July to September this year by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT.
According to DSVRT, of the number, Alimosho Local Government Area has the highest number which was not disclosed.
Its Coordinator, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said this at Roundtable with Non Governmental Organisations organised by the European Union-sponsored Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme, saying the number of reports from the *6820# platform from July to September were six hundred and sixty-seven.
Vivour-Adeniyi said there were one hundred and seventy-nine domestic violence reports, two hundred and one sexual abuse reports, one hundred and forty-three reports on child abuse and one hundred and forty-four actual cases.
According to her, the local government area with the highest reports is Alimosho followed by Kosofe, Ikorodu and Ikeja.
She said from July to September, the DSVRT attended to four hundred and forty-two clients, forty-one of whom were male and four hundred and one female.
Vivour-Adeniyi said the statistics of the ages of the clients from zero to seventeen years was twenty-seven; clients of ages eighteen to forty-five years were three hundred and seventy-eight and ages forty-six years and above were thirty-seven.
She said the purpose of the roundtable with the Non Governmental Organisations was to create a synergy between the organisations and the DSVRT in fighting gender-based violence.
The Coordinator said they needed a forum to share their successes and challenges as well create a centralised database of Non Governmental Organisations.
