New President of the Police Officer Wives’ Association, Asta Ibrahim, has called for support from stakeholders to reposition the association for greater efficiency.
Ibrahim, who is the wife of the Inspector-General of Police, made the call in Abuja when she took over as the new President of the association, saying the support and cooperation of all members of the association is required to move the association to greater height.
According to her, as officers’ wives, they need to support and encourage their spouses, train their children and also cater for the welfare of members as well as widows of deceased officers.
She said she had taken time to study the association’s set up and activities alongside those of other sister bodies with the view to come up with a robust blueprint to transform the association.
“I have been studying our association’s set up and previous activities alongside those of other sister associations to properly understand where we are coming from, where we stand today and where we can stand tomorrow,
“We shall look into improving our relationship with other sister associations, and with this I believe it will portray the relationship between the police and other sister associations on the positive side,” she said.
She called for suggestions and inputs from members of the association to enable her accomplish her mission and vision.
“I must confess I cannot accomplish all these unless I have your full support and unflinching loyalty.
“I need your suggestions, contribution and full participation and to achieve this, I shall be running an open door policy,” she said.
She also called for the understanding and patience of members.
“As mothers, there is need to improve in terms of skills acquisition, providing for widows and orphans within and outside our organisation so as to reduce the rate of crime and criminality in our society,” she said.
