Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Ogun State Command, has urged motorists to desist from driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol to reduce carnage during the ember months.

Its Sector Commander, Clement Oladele, who spoke through Davies Ogiamen, gave the advice at the 2018 Annual Public Enlightenment Rally in Iju, Ota agged: `Alert Today-Alive Tomorrow’, was organised by the Sango-Ota Unit of the commission, in conjunction with Shell Nigeria Gas.

Oladele spoke of the need to “drive to stay alive“ by embracing safe and defensive driving during the ember months.

The sector commander stated that drivers were responsible for more than 80 per cent of road crashes, while mechanical and environment factors accounted for the remaining 20 per cent.

He, therefore, implored motorists to ensure that their vehicles were in road-worthy condition before embarking on any journey.

“FRSC urges all motorists to desist from driving faulty vehicles on the road to avoid endangering the lives of other road users.

“Also, obey all traffic rules and regulations, especially road signs, to avoid unnecessary loss of lives,” he said.

Oladele also warned motorists against picking telephone calls while driving as it could cause loss of concentration on the road.

Earlier, the Sango-Ota Unit Commander of FRSC, Adekunle Oguntoyinbo, said the rally was important as vehicular and human movement were always on a high during the last months of the year.

Oguntoyinbo, therefore, urged motorists to avoid flouting highway rules and regulations.
“Drivers should check the water level and braking system of their cars before embarking on any journey.

“They should also check theses things again when they come back home at night to ensure that their vehicle is still in proper condition for the next day,” he said.

The FRSC unit commander further urged motorists to avoid wrongful overtaking, overloading, and the use of second-hand tyres, as vehicular traffic increases.
