Eight thousand one hundred and ninety-one inmates are presently in custody across the five prison facilities in Lagos State, including the Maximum Security Prison; Medium Security Prison; Female Security Prison, all in Kirikiri; Ikoyi Prison and Badagry Prison.

According to Lagos State Prisons Command, the inmates; include seven thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven males and three hundred and four females.

Its Controller, Tunde Ladipo said out of the number, six thousand two hundred and ninety inmates were awaiting trail and attending the various court jurisdictions in the State.

Ladipo said the challenges towards fulfilling the responsibilities of effective prison duties were overwhelming and challenging especially in a State with a large inmate population like Lagos.

He said the command was working towards reforming prisoners, revealing that two inmates, Kabiru Tunwase and Oladipupo Moshood were currently pursuing PhD in Business Administration and Peace and Conflict Resolution.
