Nigeria Bar Association will be engaged to play a major role in the review of some of the Laws in Lagos State, for example the Tenancy Law which is under review at the moment.
According to Lagos State Government, the Bar as a critical stakeholder will contributing to Law making to ensure people are afforded with a balanced output in Laws enacted as a result of their participation in the Law-making process.
Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Adeniji Kazeem also reiterate the use of technology to improve service delivery and justice administration in the state, mentioning the Lagos State DNA Forensic laboratory and Criminal Data Information System which will assist in Crime detection, Prosecutions and Adjudication.
Kazeem who said this when the newly elected executives of the Ikeja Branch of Nigeria Bar Association, led by its Chairman, Dele Oloke paid him a courtesy visit at the Secretariat, Ikeja, pledging the full cooperation of the ministry towards ensuring the successful tenure of the Executive.
Oloke in his remarks during the visit, pledged their preparedness to partner and engage with the State Government with a view to ensuring social justice for all was realised.
Lagos State Government has been commended for the various reforms embarked upon in the Judiciary sector including the Multi-Door Court, Witness Support Unit, Citizens Mediation Centre, Domestic and Sexual Violence Court.
While commending the reforms of the State in Justice Administration, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, described the State as a Pacesetter.
Falana, a Lagos Based Rights Lawyer urged the government to extend the reform in the Justice Sector to the Customary Courts, and advised that Senior Lawyers could be employed into the Customary Courts.
He cautioned that the lawyers must also be trained not turn procedures at such courts into the formal native known at superior courts which would inhabit speedy dispensation of Justice.
On his part, a former Nigeria Bar Association National General Secretary, Dele Adeshina said the Ministry was a trail blazer in the area of Mediation as a credible alternative to litigation as such, more should be done to encourage resolution and mediation.
Adeshina, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, commended the government for recognising mediation as a mainstream justice administration solution, advising that mediation should not be seen to be supplementary or subsidiary to other methods of resolving disputes.
